I just received my Spyderco pacific salt today thanks to all of your great suggestions. I will keep you posted soon on it's performance in my harsh conditions. Maybe a quick plug for New Graham knives - probably the best combination of prices and service of any business I have dealt with. I ordered the knife this past weekend and got it on wednesday! :)

Thats good to hear waterbug. Make sure you check back in and let us know how it performs for you. Mines been great, apart from a non-critical but annoying little bit of vertical blade play.

A question about your Salt. Open the knife halfway and look down into the back of the pivot area where the locking bar engages with the tang. Is there just a square cut out (where the locking bar should fit perfectly)? or is there an additional groove at the back of this cut out?

Mine has an additional small groove and I was wondering if others had this. I'm wondering if this is creating the excess blade play. A bit of blade play is not really a huge issue on a lockback but hey - I'm a knifeknut.
