Hi there,

As posted in replies in another thread, after 30 days waiting, I just received Mushroom Knife from Fontenille Pataud which costs over EUR170
But I found there are something looks like scratches or corrosion or "damage" on the surface of the blade.

I tried to use cloth to clean it but failed.

When I send email with photos to the manufacture, they said something like:

"it's hard to explain, since polishing the blade is one of the last operations in the manufacturing process, and will beautify the entire blade."
Then they advise me to use damp cloth, then dry the blade carefully.
In the last, they said their "mushroom knives are made from carbon steel, which oxidizes naturally and takes on a beautiful color."

Do you have any idea what these things are?
Any way to clean, remove or smooth them? (if just leftovers)

Frankly speak, it's not beautiful to me at all, and I consider it's defect, quality issue.

I've made 3 online orders in the past, 1 Laguiole, the spin is not aligned - now I accepted it, 1 Le Thiers - I noticed there is impurity in between the scales, some of you may consider I was amplified the issues, but this time, hopefully I amplified this problem again, coz I do consider this is quality issue, or shall not happen on a EUR170 knife.

But I won't return it, it will take long time to ship and costs another EUR 30-40.
My last lesson from FP.

Your inputs are appreciated.

It’s a tool meant for use. You are going to use it for harvesting mushrooms, it’ll get a lot more scratches. Rest easy and go get some ‘shrooms :) Being a non-stainless steel it’s not meant to look pristine.

I already have a wood block with leather and polishing compound sitting around for stropping my knives, so I just use that whenever I want to remove some patina. Flitz would work and probably better and faster, but also if you're going to use it for mushroom harvesting, it will patina to the point that isn't noticeable.

exactly, but imo, it's not something shall happen on a NEW, PRICY, HIGH-END knife,

you know what they describes in their email after order being placed? -
"
As you know, making a high-end handcrafted product always takes time: about 3/4 weeks.
Your order is now on process especially for you, we will advise you of its shipment.
"

customer spends EUR170 instead of US30 is not because of just wanted to have a tool to use 😂 , to me at least, it's for collection, or someday when I was back from hiking / tour, in the club, talking with members about the tour, bring out the knife, they say: this is beautiful knife! what's the brand? where did you get it.🤣 Just like when they see my Laguiole, Le Thiers, Grohmman knives with precise stone scale, etc.

ANYWAY, will bring it in my fungi tour ;) as I posted in the "Hiking and Blade" post :D
