I've been watching these Queen CC cotton samplers for some time, but really didn't know if I'd like the knife. Tenacious D had this one for sale and after a little horse trading, this one came to me. My first impression is, it is much larger than I had expected. Its 4" long 1 3/4" tall and 1/2" thick. I'm planning on carrying this one for yard and garden work (though its winding down here in the Mid Atlantic). A couple of questions.....

1) how would this be used to "sample cotton"? why this blade for cotton?

2) what other chores have you found for this style of knife?

Take care all,
Josh

It's a bit different than a traditional cotton sampler. The traditional blade shape is more like a skinner blade. And traditional cotton samplers have a flat spot for rolling cotton fibers.

Your knife has a straight edge blade which is a more versatile blade.

Love me some cotton samplers.....

Companies often take liberties with pattern names. It's somewhat similar to a "rope knife". I could see it as being very useful for yard work.

I agree with Jake that the knife doesn't really fit the pattern (that Jake illustrated with that cool photo) I've learned is known as a "cotton sampler". But I think it's a very cool knife, anyway: blade shape is a magnificent straightedge (sort of a sheepsfoot on steroids), the stag is stunning, that keystone shield is a real looker on that knife!:cool::thumbup: All you need now is an appropriate lanyard that the hole in the handle is begging for! :D
Congrats on a big beautiful knife!!!

Thx GT, the covers are actually mossy oak stag cut bone. It is very nicely done. Keystone shields, I love them, that's where all my family is from (Pennsylvania-the keystone state). The grind is not perfectly flat, I'm going to work on that ;-).

Any suggestions on the lanyard? The only lanyard knife I have came from Mike on his beautiful natural stag 42. I like the lanyard on it so, I'm up to putting something on this guy if I can figure out how to and what to use.

Oops, thanks for the correction, and sorry for my misidentification! :(
But I'm probably even more impressed with the way the covers look now that I realize it's stag bone, rather than actual stag! :D

The S&M knife looks great, I spent time looking at it in the For Sale and I would have take it if i had the funds. The more traditional looking cotton samplers that Jake posted are great looking. I had a similar variation by Amherst cutlery, the only knife I deeply regret selling, second from the left on the photo. Great stag and custom quality

Leather boot lace for a lanyard. It ages well and can be bought in numerous colors to match your scales, is inexpensive and carries more of a fitting look than a paracord or other synthetic material.

Nice looking piece.
