Cougar_Allen, did you just lock your test thread...?

It wasn't me. It was my evil twin. Or maybe it was destructive robots left over from the fall of Atlantis, who hide in the center of the earth and make people do bad things with their evil mind-control rays ... investigations are in process. :o

Spark will fix the typo when he gets around to it, now that you've pointed it out. He tends to put off that kind of thing for when he has a moment to spare, which isn't very often.

Maybe the threads that get mysteriously locked only become locked after next person visits that thread...? I mean, it was weird...I saw your "test" thread, looking normal in every way, but, when I left the thread, and looked at other topics in Service & Support, your 'test' thread had become locked....

But, this thread, for example, isn't following that pattern...if it were, then this thread should've become locked after cosine, or someone else, came in.

Have you tried using a computer at a local public library, to patrol BladeForums, to see if threads keep getting mysteriously locked, when using another machine...? Maybe switching to using another Internet browser, like Firefox, for a few days, would help...? If one browser keeps mysteriously locking threads, then maybe another browser wouldn't have the same plague...?

All kidding aside, I'm making progress figuring it out. I was able to make it happen with the test thread, and learning to make it happen could help in not making it happen....

Well, I hope that you figure it out. It'd certainly lighten your load if you didn't need to keep reopening threads that get locked mysteriously. I'm glad that it's not me locking threads. :)

I'm going to try radical action shortly ;)

I just made cougar a default member again, then reset him to Supermod. Maybe that will fix things

 Ackkkkkk! I was a scurvy landlubber??? Even momentarily -- why couldn't you have made me a Gold Member, or even a Basic Member -- there's nothing wrong with being a Basic Member -- but a scurvy landlubber??? If the other pirates find out about this I'll never hear the last of it.... :o

Seriously, I know what causes it now -- it happens when I accidentally double-click on the envelope icon for a thread, in the forum thread list. It can happen to a thread I've never even opened -- but it's not a bug -- it's a feature! Now I have a new mouse that isn't so inclined to key-bounce, and I know where to avoid clicking when I return to the forum list from another window, and I'm wearing a foil-lined propeller beanie, that should stop the destructive robot mind-control rays.

I've found that wearing a foil-lined propeller beanie causes certain electro-magnetic impulses, which results in fluctuating orbital disturbances.

Removing the propeller and outer beanie covering helps over come this issue, as does making sure that the top of the beanie is pointed.

Like this. . . . . .
