Could anyone help me on what laptop to buy?

I've been using Gateways for many years now. Been through two desktops and 5-6 laptops. The whole family has Gateway laptops. I'd get the one you linked to if I needed to replace one now.

My daughter went to a Toshiba that took six months to get repaired before she could use it. It didn't work right out of the bo,x but they wouldn't replace it. Horrible customer service experience. It went to them 3-4 times and then it would have to go back because they didn't complete the repairs.

Whatever you decide on, DO REGULAR BACKUPS! They'll all crash sooner or later. If you have backed up your data, your loss will be minimal.

Thanks for the tips. I had a acer netbook and it died a horrible pathetic death. It was slow and laggy anyways but it had 1gb of ram and win xp on it and was ages old. I am looking at the linked ones because there local and i dont like to buy stuff like that online usually. In case of issues and what not ya know?

Toshiba has a much better reliability record than HP and Gateway. The HP machine only has 2GB of ram which might be ok for very light use but could also make the machine slow as molasses. Of those three I would pick Toshiba first, Gateway second, HP third.

I dont have alot of experence with computers really. A acer netbook witch was just old as dirt and couldnt really be judged. A 3 year old compaq dual core 2.4ghz 3gb win 7 home basic desktop witch has a 35$ nvdia card added to it (dont remember exactly what model) witch suites my needs just fine. And my aunts dell witch is a dual core 2.8ghz 4gb ram windows vista witch is just a peace of garbage

Check out Best Buy on line - they have a number in your price range. If you can, make it to one of their stores. I've found their help to be smart and reliable regarding computers. We have purchased several from them over the years and are always satisfied, most recently an "isus" or "asus" laptop, my wife, who knows about those things, talked with the guy about 20 minutes and ended up with that brand. Anyway, worth a look.

Alright thanks, their is a bestbuy like a half hour away from my house near the mall. I could go there and give it a shot.

After buying several laptops over the years from Best Buy and the defunct Circuit City, I ordered direct (from Lenovo) on the last two systems and was pretty thrilled with the outcomes.

The first one was the one I am typing on right now: Thinkpad x130e. I needed long batt life and durability. I checked their outlet site and found one dirt cheap, brand new.

I had read some horror stories about Lenovo and their outlet but overall the reviews were positive. A few days later, UPS delivered it and it has been one solid performer.

My son wanted a new laptop and had certain specs he had to have....mainly a third generation I5 processor. I turned to the Lenovo outlet once again and scored him a great system that was 200.00 less than local "sale" prices on a similar system. For 419.00 shipped, he got his third gen I5, 750 gb drive, and 6 gig of ram on a 15 inch display model. Cheapest I could find it locally was 600.00.

So I am two for two with Lenovo and their outlet.

If not them, then I would probably go with Newegg.com or Amazon.

I did notice that the direct route seems to come with a ton less bloatware than at Best Buy....if that matters to you. That first one that you linked has the same AMD e300 that my Thinkpad has and to be quite honest, it is weak as far as processors go. Think basic on that processor....not sure what kind of on line gaming you plan on doing but and E300 ain't going to cut it for most games.

This one might interest you.

I'd at least keep and eye on it. I keep expecting that to go sub 400 any day now.

All of the laptops you have mentioned would be useless for most modern games but online games might be ok.

I got an atom 1.3 and it was terrible for browsing, I couldn't watch movies.

Don't touch any of them. Get an i5 processor and 4 GB of ram minimum.

They tout them self as web browsers but they will be slow even if you have a decent internet connection..

I haven't used an i3 processor and could not comment on them..

You may also want to consider a cheap tablet.. If so check out Kogan...

Thanks alot guys, for what i intend to use it for i feel like maybe a tablet would be better suited for me. Just play app games and watch youtube and netflix.

My Thinkpad has the 1.3 e300 and with a little tweaking it runs fine.

The thing is most of the lower performance pc processors have to be cleaned of the bloatware to run smooth. Once that is done, running Windows 7 with certain tweaks will speed up performance even more.

Then, once you get all that set, using lower resource browsers like Opera give you even better performance. That is my go-to web browser for my little Thinkpad netbook.

I can watch Youtube, Netflix (on non-hd settings), DVds on my external dvd player, surf the web, do word processing, finance software, on line chat, music files......everything that I need in an ultra portable system and more. Like right now....surfing the web while running VLC listening to jazz, my Kindle for PC open in the background and several more tabs open in Opera next.

It's all in how you tweak it but there are limits.

My wife and daughter both have Asus notebooks. I have an Asus netbook I take when I travel. All of them have been very reliable. My wife's is almost as fast as my desktop system. Being almost a no-name brand, they are reasonably wallet friendly, considering what you get.

Asus has some incredible customer service and Toshiba is also excellent, Avoid dell. Id suggest checking out Newegg.com or Tigerdirect. They currently have some wicked sales and have great shipping times.

This would suit your needs, it has dedicated graphics which is hard to come by at that price, It's better than all 3 you posted and is just a tad more expensive. Its also a 17 inch instead of 15.

ALSO My friends 27 and still plays rune scape.. Hes very good, ranked 8000 I believe , Just Search Draikee

In your price range & desired uses, a tablet will work jusr fine. Unless you absolutely need a keyboard, there really isn't a reason for a laptop/netbook in this price range as the speed & components will limit your uses. Or, you can wait for the next gen of Google Chromebook to come out in Q1 this year.

What people aren't aware of is that all computers are assembled by 3 main integrators in China nowadays. The components inside are all the same for the price range. Its mostly cosmetic differences nowadays. This is true if you buy an Apple, Dell, HP, Sony, lennovo, Acer, Toshiba whatever. Quality isn't as much brand specific as much as luck -with the exception of Apple and other high end models.

Ill mostly web browse but i might play some online games too (i still play runescape dont judge please)

I just kind of want to know what one would be best for what they cost.

Wow you and Chris must be close, he wants prices for the same laptops :)

And he also likes Runscape. You 2 remind me of my own cousin and I.

Consider Asus, I have one of the transformer (TF300 I think) 32gb tablets. I like it so much my next laptop will be an Asus.

I wonder if you people will ever let it go? Probablly not, thanks to the people that helped me out though, i ended up getting a kindle fire after going to the store and using things.

You guys are acting like im doing something wrong. The account thing was asked and spark said it was okay, he also said that if one of the accounts breaks a rule that both of us get banned.
Not that it is any of your business but i asked the question EDCF with chris's account because they have a electronic specific forum. But all of you will say thats just an excuse because im obviously some kind of psychopathic nut job who has like 7 personalities and switches them around as i wish. Whatever helps ya sleep at night, im not going to lose any sleep because you guys dont believe me.

To state the obvious i asked the question on chris's account because it was easier then making my own account to ask one question and be done.
