Could anyone use leather like this?

A couple weeks ago I was at the Herman Miller company store and they had two full leather hides for $50-$75, I think. Granted, this was a couple weeks ago and the prices may be way off. Most things like this are highly negotiable over there. I bought some of the same leather a few months ago for myself and pictured it below so you know what I'm talking about. The stuff seemed the same, with a smooth side and a suede-like side, and it's really thin, as you can see. About the only thing I could see this being useful for is being cut into strips as lanyards for braiding or glued to the outside of Concealex sheaths to make them look a little classier. It's really nice quality. The hides were large (at least 6-8 square feet, I'll bet). The hides that were there were the same as the pictures below except they are gray in color instead of my chocolate brown. They were a medium gray, so not real light or dark. Chances are these aren't available anymore, but I thought I'd ask if anyone is interested in it and I'll go out there and see/buy what you need. I'd only charge what it costs at the store + shipping costs. I know the hides weren't more than $75 each and they may have been more like $25-$50 each. Just email or reply here if you're serious about it (it's about a 30 minute round trip plus another 20 minutes to the post office). And, I suppose if multiple people are interested I could cut them up into a few sections. I haven't done anything with my pieces yet, so I don't know how well it works as a sheath layer, but I suspect it would be fine.

Yes. You can get a slightly damaged Aeron for about $300 and if you work for HM, which I don't, take another 50% off. I got a new one for $100 from an insider. Not bad for an $800+ chair! There are lots of good deals to be had, but it's sort of like garage saling where you go all the time and occasionally find a real prize. It's pretty much all office stuff, though. You aren'y going to find an Eames lounge and ottoman for $50 or anything like that! No bent plywood stuff, either. Basically it's office stuff that was scratch/dent or that was pulled out of new installations.

It looks like it is a skiv. They are useful for many things but I can't think of many knife making related items. Doesn't seem like a bad deal although it has been 15 years or so since I bought one.

Is this the same as a "split?"

I don't know much about leather but was recently browsing eBay and came upon some splits, like this one, a 25 s.f. side selling for $35.

By the way, there's all sorts of interesting stuff in the eBay leathercraft section. I've seen everything from Veg. tanned goatskins to snake skins to beaver tails there...

Wow! If that's the same thing, you'd be better off by a longshot with your price! I didn't even unfold the pieces they had at Herman Miller, and I'm a bad judge of square footage, so I could be completely wrong. Anyway, again, if someone wants me to check it out, get exact dimensions, etc just let me know. I may head over there today, anyway.
