Ok guys. I'm struggling with deciding on my next big Busse blade. I have about 4 Busse's I think. The largest being a Skinny Ash. Until the Basic10LE was announced I thought ihad my next large purchase decided on. Ideally want a SAR6, SFNO and/or a battle mistress. The purpose would be to baton, chop and kill zombies, of course. Help me out here guys. What should I do? Stay the course with the knives mentioned or go with the Basic10 LE? If it's the Basic10 then what are the pros and cons of the choil in my given applications?

I think the Basic 10 LE will be great at choping and zombie killing.

I bought 1 (ok more than 1) instead of getting a BM on the secondary market - the advantage to me is price (how can you pass it up at $337 or $327) and its satin with a comfortable handle. You're getting satin INFI at a user price.

And, the money you saved by ordering a B 10 LE can go to the next Busse.

The SAR6 and SFNO are great knifes too so I would get the shiney B 10 LE and have some extra $$ for those two.

As to the choil decision, I don't think it makes much difference in actual use. Will you be chopping that close to the handle? I would get the version that looks better to you.

From what I read you don't really "need" an SAR-6 or SFNO at this point, because you already have the skinny ASH which is definitely one of the best Busse offerings in the 6 inch blade range. On the other hand a B-10 or a Mistress would be a reasonable expansion of your knife set. I have the B-11 and some Mistresses, so I dare to advise that if you focus on extensive chopping and/or hiking trips (weight!) you should go for the B-10. If you focus more on batoning and around home use you should go for a Battle Mistress. The BWM is somehow a compromise between the B-11 / B-10 and the Battle Mistress - with decent chopping comfort, relatively light and still good at splitting logs.

For me the B-11 is too big to be "one knife to do it all", so I'll always pair it with a smaller blade (Busse or Folder) and it wouldn't hurt not to have a choil. The decision depends mostly on the looks I guess.

If a mistress is what you want, wait for the new mistress that should be coming out in the next couple of months. It's the NMSHBMLBS - Nuclear Meltdown Straight Handled Battle Misstress Light Brigade Series.

I personally prefer Res-C on blades in the 10" range. I do not like the handles on the BWM, or any of the Fusion handles, but that's just me. A lot of people love them.

I can't say from experience, but most people lust after the Straight Handled Busses because of how comfortable they are.

The new BM will be 11" long, and will be light due to the LB treatment. Jerry has really thought up something ingenious here. The tang of the blade will have material removed from it, but will not be completely hollowed out, thus reducing the weight of the blade. I can't post the link right now because I'm working, but go to advanced search and search for "Light Brigade" threads posted by "Jerry Busse."

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with either.

Get the B10LE NOW!.

You can almost never go wrong buying new INFI at factory pricing. $337 (+ $15 for S&H) for a satin chopper is a screaming deal in the Busse universe. If you think you want a Mistress, grab this one instead.

When the B10 finally ships, the Exchange will be full of knives from flippers hoping to score a profit. If you didn't have one on order, you could wait for the initial flurry of overpriced offerings to die down, and pick up one at the sellers cost, which will be 337 + 15 + 15 (to you).

Or, when you get yours, if you decide it isn't right for you, you should have no problem dumping it at cost.

re the choil question. I don't get the idea of a choil on a big knife letting you choke up on on the blade. If you had a choillless B10 (like mine), you could get a good firm grip on the handle and still be very close to the blade for close-in, controlled work.
