Basically, I am worried that if I bought the 5, it would be the same (blade length & width, weight) as the BK2. Granted, dont mind selling the BK2 if that is true, but just wondering. Thanks!!!

They're REALLY close.
the big difference between them is the handles.

+1

and the sheath.. If you buy the micarta handles and a kydex sheath for the BK2 in europe you're nearly in the same price range as the ESEE5. But without the no questions asked warranty. So the decision was easy. (+ the workmanship on the ESEE5 was better.. but nevertheless, the BK2 is a great affordable knife.. imho)

Thanks for posting the video (although my laptops buffering it really slowly: I'm gonna have to go back and watch it properly later).

I knew that the 2 & 5 were similar, but seeing them next to each other...separated at birth!

I really need both those knives! Why I don't know, but I do...

Some of that guys other vids are interesting. Putting the convex on the 5, then the BK2. Really shows what those two knives can do. Great recommendation. Thanks again.

I own the BK2, and I have worked with a ESEE5, damn near twins. 'Cept the Beckers been around ALOT longer. My favorite knife, of all the knives, she's the Alpha Dog. The ESEE handles are too flat for me, I likes me some palm swell.

Either one will be a knife that will outlast all of us, though.

Good knives, both of them, I just prefer Becker.

virtuvoice also shows in followup vids, the effect of taking the coating off the Bk2, then also polishing and convexing the grind to the blade edge.

I like his vids a lot and the accent is really entertaining, particularly when he's trying to tell you something sucks. It makes it even funnier as he doesn't realy tell you it sucks, but he gets the point across.

I own both, I can post a pic or two side by side if you like.

Personally, I feel about the only similarity they share is the fact they're both a 1/4 inch blade. From there, they're very different in design and intent I feel.

It's hard to truly compare to two because I find them so very different and what they're both good at, but I'll give it a shot.

The Becker is probably the better chopper overall and that has to do with its grind and handle style I feel. It's sharp, but not as sharp as the ESEE-5 if you're comparing stock models. You can get the Becker pretty scary sharp though. Might take a little work, but you can get it there and it holds the edge well.

ESEE-5 is the better cutter of the two for sure in my opinion. The high sabre grind makes a difference here. Also more "pointy" if you will. Again, very different designs.

I like the grip design of the ESEE better. The Becker is fine, but a bit beefy for some people. Doesn't bother me because I've got big hands. The 5 might be a tad easier for small handed people to use over the BK2...grip is a tad slimmer.

The pommels are vastly different. With the BK2, you've got a pretty versatile hammer style pommel. With the ESEE-5 it might be slightly less versatile due to the fact it's designed to be a glass breaker. This is where I do like the BK2 and wish they would make an ESEE-5 without the glass breaker and something more like the BK2 as an option.

They're both very rugged knives. I prefer the ESEE-5 because I find it a tad more versatile overall. But I wouldn't feel ill equipped with either. They're both very good with a great reputation. Really boils down to your own personal needs in the end.

I'll try to get a few pics up if that helps.

The BK2 drop point blade is better suited for skinning a critical function of any bush craft survival knife IMHO. The drop point was what first drew me to the knife, than I realized it was built like a tank and had to have it. Liked it so much I bought two more and one of every other Ka-Bar Becker Tomar's carried, including both versions of the Becker Necker. Now it looks like I need a couple of second Gen BK2's. ;)

I got them both and would not sell either.....

there both damn sweet blades, if you get the BK2 get some micarta grips, it makes the blade that much nicer.....

Alright, I'm letting the cat out of the bag. The BK-2 is just a ESEE-5 spraypainted black.

Those are going to be the next colab. between ESEE and Ka-bar, were doing a BK-2 with an ESEE handle. Were calling it the ESEE-5. Ka-bar is also doing a ESEE-5 with a Becker handle. Guess what were calling it.........
