Could someone recommend a good knife magazine?

I'm fairly new to knives. I've looked at newstands in local stores and haven't seen a single knife magazine.

Could someone suggest one and also let me know how to get in contact with the magazine for a subscription?

Thanks,
Clay

Tactical Knives is a good one.

A lot of folks would say you will learn more here than any magazine will give you, but then again you can't take us to the bathroom with you.

Lot's of info here, and if you need specs on specific knives, just click above on "STORE". Mike runs an excellent site with lots of brands, lots of info, and good prices.

By the way, newsstands are probably not gonna cut it. The subject matter is a little too esoteric for general interest. Try a mega-Barnes & Noble, Borders, or the like. (they even have nice comfy chairs and strong coffee, and don't look at you cross-eyed when you read & replace their merchandise)

There are four major publications in the USA.

Blade magazine, sort of an all purpose magazine. Probably the most popular of the bunch:

Knives Illustrated, a little more sophisticated than Blade. Do a web search, a number of magazine retailers are providing cut rate subscriptions: http://fs2.freeshop.com/pg004289.htm

http://www.knivesillustrated.com/

Knife World, a newspaper format (black and white) magazine. Covers customs and antique knives and knife history. Free 90 day subscription available over the web

And Tactical Knives. Not my favorite, but it is for a lot of folks.

Happy reading!

TK is definetly the best IMHO. It gives good evaluations of good knives and doesn't spend to much space on glossy pics.

I agree, TK is the best of the current lot.
BTW, if anyone is interested, see my post in the Trading Post forum. I have all the issues of TK from the first one in 95 for sale. Prices are negotiable.

TK is the mag with the most useful info for me. I pick up a copy of the others from time to time but mainly for the glossy high quality pics. Blade mag especially is packed full of ads. Which may be good or not so good depending on what you are looking for. When starting out, look at them all. Soonafter you' ll find which peaks your interest most. Good luck.

I read them all. And I actually admit to liking the ads in Blade. You can learn alot about the industry from reading those ads. And the custom makers ads in the back often have some of the most interesting knives

Blade and Tactical Knives. I have little use for Knives Illustrated, but that's just my opinion.
Knife World is also very good, but I find more oriented to the collector. Nothing wrong with that, but not for me. It is also only available through subscription.

I saw some great mags listed there get all of
them you can.I've been making custom knives
now for approx 2years, the only mags available to us over here are Blade and Knives Illustrated. They are great mags but sometimes I think a lot of us over here would like to be able to get others.

Good luck
Regards
Steve
