Could this be my best knife ?

When I drew up the ' Woody ' knife for Bryan Breeden to make I resisted so much the temptation to add this and that to the drawing, after all it looked so boring !

When I recieved the knife it felt great in the hand but it still failed to wow me in the looks department. As I'd posted on this forum I'd vowed to carry this knife as my main tool for a 6 month period, during that time I used it for food prep, fire prep, trap triggers and any other uses I could think up and it excelled at every task.

The more I used this knife the more it grew on me, even to the point that I no longer craved wanting to use my other blades......yeah scary stuff eh !

Anyway after the 6 months was over I had a quick binge rotating the knives in my collection but still found myself grabbing this knife the most. It's the perfect size for most tasks, very light given it's size, very tough, holds a great edge and maybe most important of all it sharpens up easier than any other knife I own. A few licks of my diamond hone and strops on some leather and it's shaving sharp again !

Pics really don't do this knife any justice, it would never win any beauty contests ( sorry Bryan, my fault not yours )but the damn thing just works !!!

When I want a slightly smaller blade I sometimes grab my Swamprat Vex but for the most part this is still my go to blade.

Anyway I just thought I'd share this as I'd taken it out again today and got to wondering why I liked it so much.

By the way I've heard it ain't the only Woody now so don't be suprised if you see it's brother on the forums at some point !!!

I'm currently having a bigger knife made by Bryan, the Taiga, maybe in the future I'll get him to make me a thin 4" kephart and then with that trio I won't need any of my other knives !!!!

Now you have to give specs. Need the following:
Blade length
Blade width
Blade thickness
Handle length
Handle thickness widest and slimmest
Steel
Grind

Can't leave me hanging as I am working on a my custom design and could use the input. I have decided on Elmax as the steel with a 4 3/4 inch handle and ROM 4- 4/1/2 inch blade. 5/32's thick - unsure of grind, either higher saber or full flat. Not sure but it needs to skin deer well.

By the way I am close to your neck of the woods this week in corporate training in Seattle. Much cooler than Texas right now.

After the 6 months, you grabbed that one most still. That says something to me right there

Unfortunately, it's brother is on the other side of the continent in a territory that's the exact opposite of yours in terms of beauty, lol!

Oh well, I was still hoping to get it out today and get some pics so your timing seems spot on. I'll try and get them up later today. Mine is a little bit different than yours...it's got a slightly extended pommel and I went with tubes instead of pins, but the design is the same.

Like you said, she may not win a beauty contest, but she sure feels right in the hand.

Ok, here are some quick pics before I head out to run some errands. Mine is 5/32's and has Dymondwood handles...not everyone's cup of tea color wise but I wanted to try them.

And here is a pic of it shaving the hair on my stomach to show how sharp it is.

Wow shaving your tummy, that is a new one think lol.

Pitdog, I am just glad to hear you and Collin like your knives. As to what they look like, your design is a great working design.

Bobber, thanks for the kind words. The Warthorn is a cool design.

I like this one a lot Pit, a simple design that you can tell had a lot of thought put into it. If I was to change one thing if I was going to order one, I might add a slight birds beak pommel to choke back on for a little more chopping leverage, probably something similar to the pommel on your knatchet.

I appreciate the comparison shots with the ML Kep. That's one of my favourite blades, and for what it is(a 4" all around belt knife), I wouldn't change a thing. But sometimes an extra inch or two is nice for batonning or certain food prep.

I'll echo the thoughts on Bryan's edges. I ordered one of his SERE 5.5 blades as my first custom knife almost 3 years ago, and it gets wicked sharp and keeps its edge, while still being easy to sharpen. I'd love to order another from him, and this might just be the one.

Yea I could see a birds beak at the pommel area on this knife design lol.
6shooter, just started on another one of them SERE 5.5" type deisgns today, but with a different blade shape.
Yea that 0-1 is a neat steel and just sharpens up great.

Now that you've made your decision, send that ML over to Coquitlam so I can give it the love it deserves by taking it down the Skagit trail next month. :)

Hey, by the way, I hear the big cats have been attacking lots of folks on the island this year. One went right in some ladies living room?

To me the beauty is the simplicity! I think that's a great design and a fine looking knife too, you and Bryan did good!

Yeah there has been a lot of cougar sightings in the area this year. I guess all the development cutting into their habitat is causing them to cross paths with people increasingly more often !
