Just got my Roger Massey carry size camp knife. Contrary to popular opinion, Danbo doesn't like to carry huge honkin knives all day in the woods. ;) Blade is forged 52100, and is 7.5" long from tip to front of single nickel silver guard. Thin copper spacer and another thin nickel silver spacer in front of the African Blackwood handle. One domed nickel pin and lined thonghole. Overall length is 12.5". Balance point is right in front of the guard, which makes it ever so slightly blade heavy holding it in your hand.

The hunter I recently got from Burt Foster. I sent Burt a sketch and a block of stabilized Amboynia burl, and Burt forged the knife out of O1. I don't think I've ever owned a hunter/utility knife that fit my hand so perfectly, like this one does. Blade is 3.25" from tip to front of handle material. Full tapered tang with thin red spacers. 2 stainless pins and lined thonghole. Overall length is 8".

Both knives came with very nice form fitted, hand stitched leather pouch type sheaths, but I'm wondering if I should have a nice piggyback style sheath done for both together.

Get the duel rig made - They make a fine pair. The Massey looks quite unique. It's difficult to tell from the pic , does the Massy taper out sightly from the handle both on the spine and blade?

A fantastic set.

Not sure what you mean, by tapering slightly. The blade has some extra belly towards the tip, and the handle flares out wider towards the butt. The spine of the blade has an unsharpened swedge about halfway back.

That's a terrific pair of knives by first class makers. I really like to see every example I can of Roger's work , for there are precious few. I've not seen this style of knife from him before, so this is an extra treat. :D

That'll do it. What a treat to use!

Pretty sweet Danbo. That camp knife is fantastic the utility looks mighty handy ;).

Now, do you see why I want that camp knife of yours? It would be the big Brother to this one. ;) :)

Nice pair. I esp like the little hunter. I prefer not to carry big ol' blades around when hunting.
Danbo, I think you saw the ironwood and D2 pair Mel Sorg made for me several years ago. A large 5" deep-bellied semi skinner and a 3" hunter/caper in a dual sheath aka "Mad Poet Camp Set". I use them every year and I love the 2 knife camp set concept. Just wish I had a solo sheath for the smaller knife.

Some very nice knives.
That camp knife really has a flow to it. Gorgeous.

I'm a big believer in the 2-knife theory of walking in the woods. The sizes of those two compliment each other nicely. If you do decide to go with a piggyback type rig, let us know how it turns out, and who makes them. I would really be interested in the concept. Thanks for the post.

Personally, I think the "Ultimate Field Duo" will be you and me, out on the town with a number of cool ones in tow, in St. Louis at the end of next month......;)

Those knives ain't bad, either!!!!!!!! :D
