Could this possibly be a Buck sheath?

I just picked this up and although I don't think it's a Buck sheath, it fits the 105 that came in it so well, it makes me wonder. Has anyone ever seen this sheath before? It's very close in shape to the flap over 105 sheath.

I don't know who made it either, but I do like how low it rides.

I have a custom sheath of that design for a 102 that I like.

Because Buck has done so many projects for DU and based upon the lines and form of the sheath, I suspect it is a Buck project sheath. Joe may be able to give a definitive answer. Dave, you have a knack for finding cool Buck items we rarely see!

Buck for sure did this one that I'm showing with the 105 sheath. It's been a favorite of mine since I aquired it a few years back and has gone with me on a few trout fishing trips. Even has a couple of small blood spots on it now.

It's also very similar in design to the old 107 sheath, but the 107 sheath has Buck and 107 stamped on the back. It would be very cool if the 105 DU sheath turned out to be a Buck product, but either way, I like it.

Odd that the knife itself does not have DU markings of some kind......only the sheath.

Did they make many such offerings?

I don't know for sure but I think this sheath was offered with a 192 Vanguard for DU. I don't think this sheath was offered with the knife shown.

Yeah, all the DU sets I've seen had a marking on the knife as well. A marked sheath and a plain knife seems wrong.

But, I can't claim to have seen all the DU stuff, that's for sure.

That IS a great sheath and I'd guess that it's Buck.

With all due respect Richard, I don't think it's for a Vanguard. Here's some photos showing a Vanguard, it's sheath and the DU sheath. It's not a good fit at all. Below that is a picture of a DU Vanguard and the sheath it came with.

I'm convinced that the knife isn't the one that came with the sheath. I've looked at quite a few DU's knives from different manufacturers and own a few myself. Everyone has the DU logo on the blade, handle or both.

An even better fit in the sheath is a 121 (pictured below). It would be cool if it was a "Buck" made sheath, but the lack of any markings indicating that makes me doubt it. It is cool though and I'm happy to have it.

Well, here's another mystery......and an interesting one.

Surely someone here will have the answer.

I think.

:)

If not.......there may be a DU collectors forum somewhere that could help.

Looks like the mystery is solved. A poster over in Levine's sub forum said that SMKW had a bunch of these sheaths in the sheath bin a few years back.

Well......The info is out there if we persist!

Someone from the Schrade Collector's forum says, " Schrade did make most of their sheath in house, especially the molded ones like that one, which were found on the PH's, fillet knives, etc."

So......the mystery may thus be solved.

I love this mystery stuff!!

:)
