Could we please make the forum idle limit limit a little longer?

(Edit title to only one "limit".)

I'm sitting there writing a semi-technical post and it starts taking a little longer than I had expected.
I click "go advanced" so I can refresh every 30 seconds so I don't lose my post.

The forum says I have to log in again.

The forum locks up. I try to go back to the page with my post, but I have now logged in and it refreshes.

Half an hour of my life is gone.

Whatever the idle limit is, it seems ridiculously short. Some forums wait next to forever, this one seems to log you out as soon as you look away from your computer.

Does it actually use bandwidth just to have someone sitting there looking at a page? Will the financial burden of being able to sit there for more than 15 minutes without doing anything kill Bladeforums?
(Breath in. Breath out.)

This has been a nagging issue since I joined. If it can change, great. If not, I'll live.

I have never been logged out unless I push the log out button or close my browser.
also never lost a post for taking too long to post it.

This issue sounds strange to me, maybe something with your settings.

Make sure to click the "remember me" box when you log in, then the forum won't log you out.

Same here. As a moderator, I've had long posts sitting in one tab, when I went to another tab to check on a different forum, taken time there, come back, gone to fix lunch, and the original long post was still waiting for me.

This kind of multiple activity is routine for me, and BF accommodates it.

Ah. If that's the case then setting my browser to never remember anything might have something to do with it.
It's funny that at least one other forum keeps me logged in anyway.

I'll chalk it up as one of those mysteries of the internet.

I've been logged in and had the same thing happen in the past week, due to the inconsistent server and software changeover.

Each time I've told myself to COPY my work every few minutes.... But I never do.

Like these guys, it's rare to happen. I stay logged in here at home 24/7. Often it will appear I am online, when I'm off at work. I left the forum page up.

I like that: Breathe in, breathe out.... ;)

I generally compose my long, technical posts (well, long-winded anyway) in Wordpad, saving as I go, then copy and paste into the reply box here. I've never had the forum log me out, but I have had power failures and computer glitches on occasion.

I used to do that, but I haven't used word in a while.

Just to confirm, checking "remember me" does work to keep me logged in. My browser settings just stop the feature from doing what it was meant to do (remember password and login).

You're running Windows 7 aren't you? :) I have the exact same thing on a computer I use at work.

If you don't allow cookies for Bladeforums "remember me" won't work. Don't worry, Bladeforums doesn't use cookies for nefarious purposes.

My work computer (Windows 7) is somewhat locked into not allowing me to "remember" the login information for this or any other wise I visit. When I open Google, I'm locked into "Strict Search" as well. I've read that has to do with the OS and how it handles cookies in general. Haven't tried Firefox or Chrome yet.
