Hello Buck Knife experts and enthusiasts,

I purchased this knife several months back and I was hoping one of you Gents or Ladies could offer up a year made / vintage?

Also perhaps tell me what type of steel its got?

Lastly approximately how many were made hence the rarity of this one?

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Its 5 inches in length closed.. Its got Mocha / Brownish jigged Bone scales. There are no other markings on the back of the knife. What you see in this photograph here on the front of the knife are the only markings on the knife.

Thanks,

...Hey sunnyd...Larry Oden made a comment about that knife about 5 years ago... on 10-23-2002 ( according to the archives :p ) ...He said:
"This was a contract knife made by Camillus for Smokey Mtn. Knife Works a few years ago. They occasionally show up on eBay. They were made in a brown jigged bone and an imitation stag, as I recall." Hope that helps ya a tiny bit Anthony...

Hello DarrylS,

Darn tooten I am grateful! Its a great bit of help to get started with!. Thanks very kindly for that.. From a fellow Floridan no less..

 ...Happy to have been of some help Anthony...Seems there are a few of us in BF living in the land of citrus and humidity...LOL...:p

These come with a couple of different types of scale material. Also a few are around with no blade etching. For some reason lots of folks call them "pig stickers". Which around my parts is more related to the throat cutting act of hog butchering than any 60's terminalology for a law enforcement officer.
:D

I've always seen them called "Texas Toothpicks", which seems appropriate...I don't understand the "California" aspect of it...kind of a cheap ripoff of an established name, IMHO... :(

I refer to the etching; not the knife itself...

Darryl,,,you are a wealth of information, how you drag those tidbits out of archive.

Anyone have a model number on this toothpick sticker?

Yeah, prob ripped off the "toothpick" and figured since Buck was in California at the time? "El Cajon Toothpick" would've sounded cooler...

hi, i ordered one of these from smkw back around 98 the fake stag one had to buy the jigged bone one on ebay made in 98 or 99 2500 each in delrin stag and jigged bone, brand new around 35.00 now with the box around 75.00 and up,wish buck would have them made again, theones made for smkw were camillus made. Hope this helps thanks.

I bought one of these in June of 2001 on closeout at SMKW for $25. If I recall correctly, it has better than average steel, either carbon or possibly ATS-34.

This is all great and informative information y'all came up with for me here. I feel very fortunate to have such great resources right here in the Buck community. Thanks to everyone here that contributed. Very much obliged! If'n anyone else has anything more to add, I would be pleased to get that info as well!

Many Blessing you guys!.

~Anthony
