Hi everyone, thank you for taking some time to look at this knife, my friend bought this a while ago, and I just cannot help him with any information, as my knowledge on Buck knives is very very limited.
Its a Buck 119 with what most definitely seems to be original sheath...please correct me if I am wrong, but what he is wanting to know is the approx. year?, and are these deemed more desirable ..its be one hell of a weightier knife than the "ordinary" ( forgive me for the loose use of that term ) Buck 119, and I really like it!.
If I can ask?, Rick would like to know the going value of these?...its had very little use, and is in great condition, and I think its a nice honest knife, I prefer the patina that its developed on the Brass, it would be a real shame if someone was to polish this.
Thank you very much for helping me out, and I hope your weekend treats you well.

that date code is from 1989. Someone once told me something is only worth what you can get someone to pay for it. That is why looking into similar sales on the bay may give an idea of what some are willing to pay. I agree that is a very handsome knife.

Thank you for that hogger, yes...I too give the e-bay advice, I thought I might just ask in case it was well known that these were" wow...you got one of those" :D

H Duncan,

I like the well used sheath from your 119. The value for a used 119BR?
My guess is between 50 and 75 USD. But I would think rather 50 than 75.
The high price is for an unused knife.
Hope that helps,

Best, Herbert

Herbert, thank you, yes...the sheath is worn, but the condition of the blade doesnt show this...but you get that quite a lot, thank you very much for your help with this guys, much appreciated, we dont get to see many earlier Bucks here in New Zealand, but now we see the very late model wooden handled ones here on the local site.
Thank you once again.

Duncan,

you're welcome!

What I forgot to write: The sheath seems to be the
original one. This type of sheaths ar typical for the time
around 1990, the time when your Knife has been made.

Herbert

As others have said,1989,I have the same knife except black phenolic handle, and I prefer that style of sheath to anything else they ever made. The steel is 425 modified,to me its a great steel,I love it!Beauty knife ya got there!

Those older Brass/Cocobola 119 prices are staying up quite well, partly because the process for machining the blood groove changed in about 2005 and the new blood grooves often look pretty crappy compared to the old ones.

Hey guys...thank you very much, I have learnt a lot about this knife, so it will be a pleasure to let Rick know of this.
Have a great day.

Another entertaining tidbit to pass on to your buddy... Around here, some of us call that style sheath "the Snoopy sheath." Unsnap the retaining flap and uncurl it so it lays flat, and you'll see why. :D
