Could you put Edge Pro apex Polish tapes on the Sharpmaker Rods?

Just curious. If this would work seems like it would be a nice way to get a mirror polish on the sharpmaker.
 
Actually sounds like a really good idea. You can buy the 3M lapping film in sheets and use a paper cutter to make it the right size.
 
Don't see why you couldn't... The 3M film is fairly easily available, and one sheet would make a couple dozen sharpmaker-rod-face-size strips easily enough. Do it! Then tell us how it works!
 
Thats a really great idea. I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work either. Let us know how it goes.

Just remember to run your blade the opposite direction with the tape. If you run your blade down the tape you will cut them.
 
not necessarily, i've sharpened freehand on the EP polish tapes on glass blanks and if you're steady enough they will hold up fine. that's if your angle is wrong that you'll obviously cut into them. or if the substrate isn't flat, don't know about sharpmaker's rods.
 
This sounds like a great affordable way to put a polish on your bevel! I think I'll try it as well!

Which 3M lapping tapes do you guys recommend? I already have the super fine Sharpmaker stones.
