Hi everyone, I have just purchased this knife, I am a very happy Camper as I have been wanting one for some time now.
This is unused since new.

Please could you tell me the year if you can tell by the Stampings at all.
I apologise as these are the sellers photos and they are all I can provide.

Thank you in advance for your help everyone. :)

G'day Campbell, hard to narrow your knife to a precise date of manufacture...however there are date parameters....the 165OT Woodsman was made from 1967 to 1991. Prior to 1973 the tang stamps were Schrade-Walden, and 73 to 91 Schrade USA 165 similar to your example....in 1971 the high carbon steel sabre blade length was 5 1/4", then later it was 4 5/8" which is the likely length of your example...
The sheath does not help us date either, as that sheath design was common for the 165OT from the early examples right through to 1991.....the box it originally came in together with paperwork would have been our best guide to precise date...
If I had to give a more definitive date for yours I would say mid to late 1980's...
Codger has collected and used The Woodsman's for years and he may be able to see some subtle difference like the larger brass press stud on that sheath V the smaller studs we see on some other Schrade sheaths....
Arguably the most practical and well made knife design Schrade made and yours looks a fine example.....
Pity about 'The All Blacks' mate...22 straight wins, ...South Africa of course are a great team as well, and they always had more chance than the Wallabys' did........ we Wallabys' can't even beat Argentina these days..!.....<very few would even know what we are talking about!>.....lol.....

Larry - thank you kind Sir -very very helpful information, South Africa are always dangerous-as are you Aussies on the field, its such a fine tuned moment on that day that can turn it around - and Lack of discipline let us down to let the Boks get the penalty -thats the way the game goes!
I cant wait to get the knife.
Thanks again larry

Hi Larry
I have the knife in hand now - its great, the blade length is 5 & 1/4 inches long, total length is 9 & 3/4 inches, so this is more likely to be around the '71 mark?

Hi Duncan! A very nice example of the pattern! The marking, as Larry said, shows us that it was produced after 1972 as the company name used changed from Schrade Walden to Schrade in early 1973. And serializing was ended shortly before that. I see nothing further on the knife itself to indicate more about manufacture date. Blade length varied over time so that isn't definitive.

I will have to unpack my collection of these to refresh my memory on the sheath details, but earlier ones had a rivet finishing off the stitching on either side of the throat. Yours has the stitching doubled back as a finish which is correct for later ones. I'll revisit your set when I can do a better comparison with my remaining nib examples.

Codge...what is with the Noooo South East Idaho address??...?..has Tennessee had a hurricane I didn't hear about?.........how does that Aussie song go again......oh yes....'Love is in the air..everywhere I look around...Love is in the air...in every sight and every sound.....its just something I believe in.. and its there when I look in your eyes.......Love is in the air......'........are you sure its only your collection you're unpackin' mate?........lol.........Hoo Roo

My applications for bank owner and real estate tycoon positions were rejected so I am becoming an asset recovery agent. Five vehicles in the driveway this morning, two ready for transport to the lenders. One is a red 2015 Chevrolet 2500 4x4 with less than 100 miles on it, seats still wrapped in factory vinyl bags. Another is a newer Dodge Caravan with so many bells and whistles it is scary. "Ima in your driveway unlocking your car... bye bye!" :D

Sounds very cloak and dagger stuff mate....pity you have to hand both of those over......so which dagger have you chosen as your private protection weapon?...besides a good pair of running shoes......;)....all the best..they may end up making a movie about your exploits.........Hoo Roo

LPR cameras, asset orders, GPS systems, a variety or car unlocking tools... just repo'd one from a Saudi who had kept it hidden over a year. Chased us down the street on foot with me doing a reverse 180 in my Impala (stealth recovery vehicle). Fun fun! And now two Dodge trucks due for delivery to the lenders' auction Friday morning. Got to empty the driveway and start over this weekend.

....you might even find some knives stashed in some of those vehicles....still sounds mighty dangerous if someone is high on drugs....good luck...Hoo Roo

The new knives are made in China. I have not tested one and have no intention of allowing one on the property for very strongly felt political and financial reasons, but I believe there are more knowledgeable people here who might chime in. I know that I have read something on the subject quite some time ago which was not favorable to the Chinese steel.
