Yesterday, in one of the local home improvement stores, I was needing some paint. The fella working the paint section was about 60 years old. On TWO occasions while there, I saw him open a total of three gallon cans with a Buck 112....no kidding. I was amazed it still had a point. When my turn came to step up to the counter, I inquired as to whether the store gave him a paint can opener. His response was, "Why, I don't need one, I use this." And he showed me the blade. I told him it was hard to watch him use the blade like that but, he assured me that if you use the back spline as the pry point, it won't hurt it a bit......uuuuhhhh....ok....can you say "Blade Play"? Unreal...
:eek::eek::eek:

whew! the only thing that would make that harder to watch was if it turned out to be
a nice vintage piece huh? :)

no it is not unreal before i was a collector a knife was a tool
and any tool is put to use even if it is not its intended use..

Yeah, I think so too, Dave.....and if it's working for the guy, he must know what he's doing.

Just goes to show you how tough a girlie knife can be.

;)

The "right" tool is relative. I use whatever is in my pocket. Being he is a 60 year old man I'm sure he's been doing that just fine for many years. I think that rocks!

Yeah, I can't tell you how many times (even on TV), I've seen guys use a hammer on the back spline of a knife to split the pelvic bone on a deer while gutting it too....must be a phobia on using pocket saws or something out there....I dunno, I suppose some guys don't see it as an issue but, to me....there's better tools to use than your pocket cutter.

Wolfjohn, I can't tell you how many times I've seen my brother mallet his 119 thru a deer's pelvis then many more that I've not witnessed, I'm sure . His 119 is 3 line, 1973-80 and not a mark on the spine . Wrong procedure but a great Buck knife . DM

It is kinda funny,it wouldn't surprise me if he was around my age.Back in the day guys used those old 2 and 3 dot 110s,for everything you could possibly think of.You might say they were the original multi tool !

I don't doubt you Sky ... At the 20yr. reunion one of the Buck collectors assured me he crossed the Potomac with George . Of course, George Stenzel happened to be a friend he travels with and he wasn't 300 yrs. old . But some of our collectors are up there . DM ;)
