Hi, I don't post here often, but I do know I love my miniCQC-7B, and have carried it everywhere I go for the past 3 years.

I just gave my brother my Super Commander because he was in need of a great knife... and of course, because he's my brother. But now, I'm feeling a little empty, if you know what I mean....

Ever since I parted with the Super Commander, I've been contemplating getting another Emerson, and I've been thinking about the CQC-15 or the Commander. What are all your thoughts of these two beauties? (I'll be going satin, non-serrated) Is there another Emerson model anyone would recommend instead?

Also, where would you suggest I find these? I was looking everywhere (my normal shopping places - knifecenter, knifeworks, new graham, etc) and nobody has them in stock... :(

Thanks everyone!!

I LOVE the CQC15. As far as I am concerned, after the Persian, it's my favorite Emerson (ok, I am very partial to persian style blades...but also the Gentleman Jim is right up there in my opinion as far as beauty and Emerson knives are concerned...).

If you want a CQC15, I suggest you head to ole eBay and check this out:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Emerson-Knife-C...481?pt=Collectible_Knives&hash=item2c5606e529

It's an auction from Action Concepts, a very respected dealer (if I remember well, they are Emerson Prestige Dealers...not sure, but I think I am right). They have 7 in stock @ $199.95 + $5.00 shipping.

Hope it helps. :)

PS: Action concepts in their eBay store also have Super Commanders in stock. 2 plain edge stonewash and 3 plain edge black, @ $249.95 + $6.00 shipping. So your options are all open. Your call, now get yourself a knife, cowboy! ;)

im stuck in the same situation between the same two knives, but i also have the CQC11 on my mind

Thanks guys,

What do you guys like about the 8 more than the 15? (or any model vs another model)

Is the point of the 15 really weaker than that of the 8 or commander?

Maybe you guys see something in feature or practicality that I'm not?

For those of you who own and use the 15, what are your thoughts?

The 8 would be a little easier to sharpen (at least to me).......you have a tanto tip and recurve in the blade to consider. I love the mini CQC-15 as well. But the CQC-8 and mini CQC-8 Horseman are my favorites. The blade profile of the 8 is just a winner!!

i have the Mini CQC-15 and its OUTSTANDING! im sure the regular sized 15 is just as awesome!

The Mini-15 is my favorite Emerson. I've only handled about 5 models though. If you liked the SC the 15's recurve isnt an issue.

Ergonomically, a 15 is about as good as it gets. There was large 15 on the exchange this week...

FYI...the knife lengths...

SC = 9.5"
15 = 9.0"
Mini-15 =8.0"

One of the real requirements I have is that is has to have a v-grind. I know Emerson's v-grind is only "V" at the primary bevel, and is a chisel or one-sided at the secondary bevel... but it really is a pain in my butt to sharpen my mCQC-7B on my Sharpmaker. At least if I have to mildly "reprofile" my edge to give it a V at the edge as well (or what Emerson calls a conventional double-v grind), a V-grind is much better to work with than a one-sided chisel grind like the 7.

cevty, I haven't handled either. But how is the roadhouse's ergos better than the 15's? I am still unsure about the blade shape that I really want.

Can anyone chime in about how they like the utility of the different blade shapes?

I'm still looking at the 8, 15, roadhouse, or the commander... they're all good knives... just couldn't decide! Too bad there aren't good knife shops around that stock them so I can go see for myself.

But how is the roadhouse's ergos better than the 15's?
Hard to explain - it just sits in my hand better. The 15 just didn't sit exactly right for me, but the Roadhouse feels like it was made for my hand.

I could use some pointers on the Sharpmaker and my 7's tanto blade too. Sharpening challenges is one of the reasons I've bought the Spear point blades on a couple other Emerson's I've recently purchased.

I travel for work and heard that my Road House arrived Saturday so when I get home I'll let you all know how I like that compared to the Gentleman Jim and different 7s I have.

I also really like the standard SOCFK in Spear point. That is now my EDC.

dorfinator, defintely let me know how the roadhouse is!

I've found that if I hold my 7 with the primary bevel perfectly vertical, and use the 40deg side of the sharp maker, it works pretty well... maybe not "PERFECTLY" verytical, but pretty close. You should also be able to feel when your grinding the secondary bevel versus the shoulder... it sounds different.
