I've been ogling the BK9 for a long time. Which could be a few days for some knife-nuts, or, in my case a few years. I tried to rationalize not getting a BK9 because I had a COld Steel Trailmaster, and there seemed to be some overlap there. Did I really need another big knife?
Well I guess the answer was "Duh, of course" because a new BK9 landed on my doorstep a few days ago. And naturally it was love at first embrace. The Trailmaster looks a bit sleeker, but there is something about the Becker handle that is just more satisfying...and offers more control (I have big hands). And the edge geometry with that 3/16" blade and saber grind, well, that just wins me over in a heartbeat. Forget the great balance, it's the blade geometry. What's not to love here?
The F-150 bed liner finish, that's what.
Now this is my 4th Becker, so I knew the blade finish would be a challenge for me. All my other Beckers got stripped within a day or two of falling into my hands. I couldn't deal with the texture. This time it would be different. This time I would cherish the corrosion resistance. This time I would be patient and let nature take her course, aging the 9 with grace and care. This time I would learn to at least appreciate the rich black coating, if not love it absolutely.
Not.
