just ordered a becker necker.....they just look so sweet Though I migh take a crack at modifying the handle a little other than that looks Pretty darn close to what I'm looking for in a fixed blade...I figure paired up with a sak and a spyderco salt...I got my around the world go anywhere combo Any opinions on the necker, or that combo are sought...Thanks

Hard to go wrong for the price. It is a high horsepower-to-weight-to-cost tool. www.sheathmechanic.net is down right now, but he had some interesting scale mods for Beckers-- Kydex scales, IIRC. I've been toying with the idea of making oversized scales to extend the handle just a bit. A little wrapping makes it more user friendly. You can bolt the small Tek Lok on too. I found a 45 degree cross-draw to be the most comfortable. Or mount it handle-down on your pack shoulder strap.

Just for the heck of it, I rigged up a neck chain in silicone tubing and a couple inner tube rubber bands around the Kydex sheath-- you can tuck a firestarter, whistle, compass, and LED micro light under the bands and be ready for anything. It ain't half bad just dropped in a pants cargo pocket--- yeah, in the sheath lest you want to sing soprano there-after :D

How does that 0170-6 steel compare to, well lets say 1095 since I have a knife in that, or 1055 since I got a machete in that which I've played with a lot.

grrr.... why did you have to post this, now I'm almost 100% sure to pick up a new knife whether it be the mora or the becker. Both look nice! And I haven't even got my latest knife in the mail yet

:p

I know how you feel...If I buy any more knives I'm gonna be sleeping in the back shed.... I'd reccomend a carbon clipper if you're going for a mora good knife...Now I'm thinking CS bushman perhaps>>>

Actually, I've been eyeballing the "triflex" craftsmen. Got a differential heat treat or something, supposed to be pretty tough.

I don't think you'd be disappointed in the Bushman, especially for the price.
I got mine about 2 weeks ago, have used it heaps and love it.
Just waiting on my Spyderco Delica now...

I suppose I shouldn't say anything, but I don't think I'd go for the bushman. Looks horribly un-ergonomic and there is just somethign that feels wrong about using 1055 or 1050 whatever it is for a knife. Why I couldn't say, got a Cold Steel machete made of the same steel and its tough as nails and holds and edge great, almost as good as my 1095 ka-bar! So in other words I don't like to bushman for absolutely no logical reason!

they're very similar. it's basically 1095 with some extras to increase hardenability. i was always more interested in the designs than the steel in the beckers.

I saw them test the bushman on knife tests.com its a bada***knife. ANyone got a spyderco salt think it'd make a good piece to bring snorkeling/diving??

It's 1/4" too big for legal EDC carry here in RI, but it's an awesome little knife regardless. A nice tight paracord wrap works wonders with it to.

Ha! The trick is to buy one for your girlfriend/wife. I bought her one and she's all "Oh it's so awesome." Hell yeah, now I know she's got a decent blade when we go camping.;)

By the way, I was able to get it out of her hands for a minute it to take a look at it, . Really nice knife and razor sharp. The only problem is that now I want one.:o

Got mine from Fern knives. I noticed they go in and out of stock different places so keep checking. I paid ~$45 with shipping.

Don't make her mad! Double that if her name is Lorena

My wife likes her SAK, but she gets all sheeple on me with fixed blades. Of course she can wail around the kitchen with a 10" chef's knife and think nothing of it. Go figure

You mean a DULL chef's knife?
;)

Without a doubt, it would be. The hole is a little larger than on other spydercos that I have owned which helps to open it with wet hands or gloves on. The H2 steel won't rust. I mean it, its not stainless, its stainproof. Short of caustic chemicals you won't so much as get any small surface discoloration on it. Someone here on BF even tried putting it in salt water, wrapping it with copper wire and introducing an electrical charge, nothing doing.

And it takes a keen edge at least as quickly as any other steel I've seen.

The only drawback to it in my opinion is that it dulls incredibly quickly if you're cutting hard materials. Mine hasn't chipped though, even when I accidentally banged the edge on concrete. Which surprised me actually, seeing as how there is no carbon at all in the steel.

So, I'd say its a great pocketknife for use in a wet/salty/humid environment. I like mine so much that it stays in my pocket most every day and its so light that I don't even notice its there until I need it.

Congrats on the necker. I bought mine off Ebay and i still see them their for decent Prices.

As For the Salt. Go for it, I have read nothing but positive including one guy who used it a defensive weapon against a dog. anyway they are really well made, I am thinking about a tasman salt as my kayak and water rescue knife

Anybody else get a necker with a really thick, dull tip? I'm gonna have to reprofile the edge on mine.
