Couldn't stand it any longer. I have Benchmade-itis. I suspect it will only get worse. I just ordered a sheepsfoot version of the Mini Grip/plain edge/Satin finish/black handle 154CM.

*sigh* This will be my 3rd Benchmade and it won't be the last. Next week a guy is buying a gyroplane airframe that I was building. Also have some holiday pay. Luckily, all I want to get now is a Skirmish. I will be satisfied when I get that. Won't I?

No, not really.

I'm awfully new to this addiction...and it's already starting to get a real grip.

Ordered the Ritter RSK MkI just last night, and already starting to think about the next knife.

BM is definitely 'good.' Sadly, there are a LOT of other good makers, production and custom, out there.

I had Benchmade-itis around the end of last year / beg of this year. I think I bought 7 of them over a three month period.

But then I got Kabar-itis, Kershaw-itis, CRKT-itis and SOG-itis. Right now I'm fighting off Emerson- itis and Spyderco - itis. The Emerson bug is a tough one...

Nope, no cure!! Just open your wallet, and say buh-bye to your money NOW, it won't be so painful down the road!! Just wave buh-bye.
I myself am quite fond of the Ritter Mini-Grips myself; as I have 2. One is S30V and the other is the M2 variety. You think it is bad now, wait until the custom bug bites you!!!!! OY!

Which other BMs do you have?
I can heartily recommend several...
710 (of course)
732
610
525
520
440
42, 43, etc.

enjoy your newfound interest...

I feel your pain, I had the BM bug last year and before I was cured I had a 556 in 440C, a 556 Capela mini in D2, and a Ares 732. Now I am on a Mora buying spree:eek:

I have the full size Pika which is 440C and the BenchmiteII which is AUS8, the Mini Grip will be 154CM and I have a Peter Atwood V-Notch Booger on the way which is S30V. Guess I'll get to see how all these different steels compare to each other.

No, you're hooked. My first Benchmade was a 550 Grip. I've had the 732 Ares, the Nimravus, the River Rescue, the 551 Grip, the 556 Grip, the fixed blade Grip. Now I have the Nim Cub, the fixed blade Ritter Grip, the Ritter Grip, the mini Ritter Grip and the Sequel. I also just traded for a 210 Activator.

Oh man. Is there no cure? I guess I'll just have to keep "feeding the fever."

Of course there is a cure - you can infect yourself with custom - itis. It'll cure the rest of them (maybe)

"custom - itis" is the one to watch out for, it makes everything else look cheap! There are so many beautiful knives out there!

I have one of those V-notch Boogers as well. Peter does a great job on those! I'm still trying to talk him into making me one out of damascus. (There goes that custom-itis again...)

I have Benchmade, Spyderco, CRKT,Kershaw, and any/ all other good knife-itis rite now and its killing my wallet, but it is making me happy, so I don't think it will stop any time soon. I just bought a new Native today.

I sold about 40 knives from my collection on E-bay over the last 3 months. I have also bought 7 or 8 new ones. My collection is now down to about 40 knives and my goal is about 20. Wonder if I'll ever get there.

Regards

I've been thinking of getting a Skirmish, but the more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward a Ritter Griptilian, full size. I really like the looks of that one, especially with the black blade. Any recommondations as to the best place to get it? I've only seen it at AeroMedix.com

Tacgeek,

I owned an older version of the mini-Grip about two years ago and, while I loved the Axis lock and overall form factor, the blade steel BM used then on that model (440?) made me leery and I ended up trading it. After sticking to Spyderco for many years, I just received one of the new mini-Grips from Lighthound (sheepsfoot, thumbhole) and I'm really impressed.

I know it's probably my imagination, but I swear the 154CM blade *feels* sturdier. I also love the grind on the blade - this will probably be my EDC for the next few months at least...
