I recently took a stock Council Tool Boys Axe head and modified it into a bushcraft axe...

It went from 2 1/4 lbs. to 1 3/4 lbs. with bearding that lightens the head without losing any bit height, the pointed heel can act as a pickaroon, the upper phantom bevel is also set at a crisp 90 deg. so that it can be used with a ferro rod...the bit has a double-bevel set with a 25 deg. flat grind, and it's hung on an 18" handle...

Thanks for the time put in, hassle with video, and the mod itself. Interesting for sure, and looks like a great all around worker, and less weight to boot, which usually can't hurt.

I have to give video credit to my "lovely assistant"...she's a peach! And thank you for the support on my mod...:)

Peace, Rooster

As nice as the mod is, I'm most impressed that there is s YouTube of someone who knows how to sharpen and use a hatchet!

Did you weigh the head pre-mod? I just saw a review where they weighed that head and it was only 2#. Just curious, as I gave my CT boys axe to my son's best friend, and word on the street is he won't be giving it back :).

Rooster, that's a good looking axe, and from the video it looks very usable. Glad to see someone who is not afraid to make a tool their own.

I like what you did with the mod Rooster. Well thought out.

Most people do not associate an axe to cutting to a fine line, but as you demonstrated they can indeed.

Thank you for the videos!
