I just received 4 of these, 3 are good the last one has the grain on the handle going horizontal.
I called them to tell them I want to ship it back. They said I could send it back, but it won't be a problem.
They then said try it out, if it breaks later then send it back.
Any thoughts?,.....

I would just send it back, and enjoy the other 3.
Councle tool makes good axes you won't be disappointed. And they are made here in the U.S.A

If the grain runs continuous all the way through the handle then it's probably fine. If it runs out (crosses the handle) then you need to send it back.

This. As long as there's no runout it's no big deal.

Use it see what happens. Don't get too caught up on the perfect grain. It is somewhat a myth really. Unless you have run out as stated above.

There is a small advantage in getting a haft with perfect grain. Really bad grain is unusable or at least unacceptable. If I have a pile to choose from I will select for grain. But a decent grain with really great shape/form would trump perfect grain with poor shape - at least for me. Perfect grain and great form is Nirvhana.
