So I came upon this on baileys website and I really like it but there isnt any info on it except whats in the link.

There is a 24' handle version as well. It resembles an Autine Hunters axe, which is what I have been looking for.(wish I had the funds for an Autine) I cant figure out if this is an new item or one that is being fazed out. When I google it the link to councils website has a 404 error. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about it?

Council Tool website leaves a lot to be desired and there is no reference to such ax. Call them or call Baileys they will have the answer.

Google's cached page (from Council Tool's website) shows this:

Looks like 5160 steel, with hardened poll:

2# Wood-Craft Pack Axe, 19″ Curved Handle, with a high quality Leather Mask: The Council Tool Co.’s WOOD-CRAFT Pack Axe design is intended to produce a multi-functional premium axe which can successfully cut, chop, split, carve, shave, hew, hammer, aid in fire starting, and other key WOOD-CRAFT and outdoor activities. At 2.0 pounds, the Wood-Craft “Pack Axe” is made using 5160 steel, heat treated on both ends for superior strength, and this model has a 19” Premium Curved Hickory Handle (handle length is before hanging and assembly) and includes a high quality welted leather Mask to protect your Pack Axe from the elements and you from your extremely sharp Pack Axe.

Looks like an improvement on GB's axes - better shape - and with superior 5160 steel for a better price. Good move on Council's part.

Guess I didn't search well enough but it is listed on their web site, but out of stock. Baileys is supposed to have them on 4.20.16.

It sounds like it's a soft-open for the axe. it looks awesome, quite frankly. Good on CT if they perform as good as they look. And that full sheath? Very nice.

I certainly hope that Rooster-mod was in on this because they copied his design exactly!!!

is this the end of the Velvicut?! dangit I keep putting off buying a velvicut!

Well Guys, Council Tool has not publicly launched this first axe of a new line called "Wood-Craft" as of this posting (4/8/16)(which is not replacing any existing line but being added as a new premium line)...I think Bailey's might of unknowingly jumped the gun on the listing on their website...

And yes, I worked with Council on this new design which is based off of a mod that I had done previously on one of their stock Boys Axes...

I really think that there is a demand for this type of axe in the "American Made" market...and it is not intended to compete on an one-on-one basis with any of the Swedish models, but stand alone as an option for guys who want a premium axe that is home-grown in the USA...

I am more than happy to talk about this axe if anyone has any questions, but keep in mind that it has not been publicly released as of 4/8/16 .

Thanks and Axe-on!

Peace, Rooster

Talk about "what goes around comes around"! 60 years ago the Swedes were emulating American designs in hope of selling more product and now an American company is imitating boutique Swede designs and incorporating a few Yankee dips and doodles. A 'primitive' drop hammer Swede operation (globally speaking these are mere 'mom and pop' operations) cannot produce phantom bevels unless they spend a huge pile of money and switch over to closed die forming. Can spare-no-expense Millennials be gotten hyped-up enough to lust over these?

Rooster, that's awesome! I'm sure these will sell very well in today's market. I suppose it's true, the axe is back ;-)

300Six I would argue that the popular Swedish axes similar to these are in fact American patterns. They are just older patterns than the typical Dayton that we've become accustomed to seeing.
