I had an Amazon gift card and was looking to get another Cold Steel Product. I ordered a Counter Point I yesterday which came with free next day, no tax etc. I live near an Amazon distribution so items generally show up early morning. So I get the box at 8:30 AM and inside is a Counter Point II. Called Amazon for an exchange, and am waiting for the I to be delivered now.

I have a fondness for boot knives/daggers. A Gerber Loveless got me out of a crappy situation back in the early 80's...which is why the Counter Point intrigued me.

Anyhow, the II is a pretty nice little knife, and for it's size I find it a better knife than the Benchmade 530 I have, which I find a bit fragile. Just an opinion...as I am sure it is sturdy enough.

The II rides well and allows me full access to my levi 501 pockets...no issues getting items in and out like some larger knives. Deployment is OK, but not as quick or easy as I would like. Getting a good grip on the thumb stud takes a little thought and it has the typical Tri-Ad smoothness :D I didn't test it, but it could do minor EDC, like opening boxes and mail. But definatley not a slicer.

It's a nice little knife, but I wish it had a 3-1/2" blade, which is what I like in a boot knife and one of the reasons I ordered the I at 4". But I will say it might make a nice last ditch knife....small, very strong lock and a very secure grip. But like I said, i wish it deployed better.

Now I am curious how I will like the I when it gets here.

I think you'll find it is significantly larger in-hand than the II. It has a comfortable handle, which is a little on the thick side, but that is a plus if you use it for any kind of hard cuts. I like mine, have it with me most days and use it for all the typical light duty day to day stuff, but also tried some fire building with it just for fun and it did just fine. Shavings, feather sticks, splitting small kindling pieces, whatever. It looks sort of daggerish and one-dimensional but is surprisingly usable. It does bind a little cutting heavy cardboard due to the relatively steep primary angle.

All in all, if the size is right I'd be surprised if you didn't like it. I'd love to have a set of ironwood scales made for mine...

i use my cp1 often. it carries thick, but the clip isnt near as bad as many others due to the plastic scales. its a darn good knife. right size and the thick roundish scales make it very useable like a fixed blade in feel in your hand.
