Hello, new this and was wondering what my options might be as far as counterboring g10 scales for recessed pivots and such. As well as a cheaper and smaller harbor freight quality drill press as space is limited. Something to learn on. Any help would be great.

Most of the online suppliers who sell corby bolts also sell drill bits for it. If you know the dimensions of the pivot, a counterbore and the correct pilot from fleabay will also work.

Ordinary twist drills work just fine for both counterboring screws and corbies

Do a test hole on an offcut of the same material so you know you've got your sizes right

Thanks for the help, I read about corby bits. They seem a bit pricey but I guess you get what you pay for. Thanks guys

Regular drill bits will bore a countersink (a hole with sloped sides on the bottom), but you need a true counterbore to get a flat bottomed hole. They really are not interchangeable. There are lots of counterbore bits for sale on fleabay, Amazon Supply, and places like MSCDirect.

Absolutely, but the majority of the time having a totally flat bottomed hole just isnt necessary.
For corbies it 100% doesnt make a difference.
Every folder I've made has had all its 'counterbores', bar bearings, done this way and I bet my bottom dollar you couldnt tell the difference unless you had it disassembled.

I'm sure in my journey I will experiment with different types of bits, but I might be a little compulsive on my ability for perfection. At first I'm gonna try to work with what I have but knowing how I am I'll probably end up buying some Corbies. Thanks guys for all the advice.
