I've found this video at YouTube and found it extremely useful.

No need to mention I'm about to give myself one of these toys.

I don't know the forum policy about this kind of content, but I hope it's ok...

LoL. Box on the left has ontario + rat dot com on the side.

EDITED to avoid a link.

yeah ok, similarities are close
sone good pointers in the video.
however when it comes to
more than skin deep.
the point would have been better made
with a dual destructive test event.
thanks for sharing!

Sometimes we see stuff like this made for foreign markets where an otherwise popular knife is unavailable or overpriced. That could be the origin story here but it's impossible to know for sure. The business model for selling it on Amazon might be volume. I'm guessing the blade is made from 3Cr13 or the like and there may be other material shortcuts boosting the margin.

I once knew an expat who supervised textile manufacture in Southeast Asia. He told me all sorts of funny stories about how different brands actually get made. Name brands and knock-offs could be made from the same materials by the same workers separated only by the space between assembly lines. There could be night runs on the same equipment. There could be side deals at different levels. The world of outsourcing, OEM, and global manufacturing is fascinating.

Why would you buy one knowing it's a blatant ripoff? Not only is it a stolen design, they even put the Ontario name on the knife and packaging.

I have some folders made by a local producer that imitate the Spyderco. But they carry the name of the local producer, and Spyderco can sue them if it's the case. The whole thing is done in the open; and I know I don't have a Spyderco.

But I'll never buy a fake (like this one). It's not an "imitation" or an "homage". It's a fake, a "counterfeit". It's a criminal issue, and really disgusting.

Let's not do the advertising for those with less than honorable intentions.
