I picked up a very dirty used large folder at a local gun show for a few dollars that is "about" the same size and shape as a 110. The tang is crudely stamped "BUCK" with "U.S.A." below it. I assumed it wasn't the real McCoy and in the same league as $14.95 Rolex watches. However, after cleaning it up the knife seems well made and the blade keeps a good edge. Any idea where it was made and by who?

You might have gotten lucky, and found one of the really old ones. I'm sure one of the experts will chime in here with an appraisal.

A picture would really help in a case like this. I have seen a handful of honest to goodness fakes lately. They look like someone took a Schrade folder and knocked out the blade, ground off the existing stamp, and had it stamped BUCK. I have 1, 2, and 3 line stampings on the 3 knives i managed to get my hands on. Also, they all have brass bolsters and the blade pivot rivet is stainless.
On the other hand, if it is a genuine Buck, it is an older one from the 1967 to 1972 timeframe.
Take care,

And they can look pretty good, as well.

A few years ago, I had a Harley-Davidson model that we just couldn't identify. My friend is a Buck salesman, he looked at the knife and the black sheath, nodded, and said, "Well, it's one of ours, I just don't have a listing."

He was scheduled to attend a SHOT show, and he had been invited to an early Buck breakfast. He took my Harley knife with him. During the breakfast, he ran into Chuck Buck.

I guess Mr. Buck took one look at it and said, "I don't doubt you cannot find a listing, it's a Shrade, and a good one. Even the sheath looks like one of ours, but it isn't."

Yikes, my Shrade fooled one of the salesmen. I donated it to a local church auction. I'll find a real Harley 110 some day.

I think Joe identified it. The knife has the features he mentioned; i.e., brass bolsters and SS hinge pin. Also, the front bolsters do look "Schrade". If I can snag a digital camera I'll take a few photos and post them. Seems like a lot of trouble to go to create a Buck from a Schrade!

If you have a flat bed scanner, you have a camera. Just lay the knife on it and scan.
