Picked up a Stubby Folding Razel. Granted, I never pay retail, but I may have picked up a counterfeit...

1) Jimping on blade spine is not consistent depth or width
2) Minor grind marks on sides of pocket clip
3) Handle scales are slightly undersize
4) Upon removal of handle scales, found oxidization on liners
5) Primary bevel grinds on chisel edge are slightly washed out

Now, there is a long way between CRKT and William Henry, but the number of cosmetic imperfections lead me to wonder if they either had quality control problems with this knife, or I got a factory second. Either would be fine, but if somebody is selling knockoff CRKTs, that's no good.

Any information would be good.
Thanks

I don't know if you got a Counterfeit or it just got past QC, but I've NEVER had a problem with CRKT's QC or F&F, all you can do is try to return it to the company and they will replace it if it is a genuine CRKT with problems like that.

I do not think these defects make it counterfeit. I am probably too pessimistic, but my guess is that it is genuine. It is just fresh from factory, not some old stock. :(

Thanks, Tyrone.

I tossed the box, so CRKT might be a little sticky about repairs or refunds. I'm not real worried about it, it's like buying a car with a dent or two.

I just want to make sure I'm getting what I'm buying...

Wouldn't it be possible that a counterfeit CRKT might be a better knife? :D

CRKT has a short article on counterfeits on their site. (link) They mention on there some of the things to look for in the counterfeits (right below the pictures of the real and fake M16 packages). You might check that and/or contact their customer service with specific details to see if they can help.

Ah, we have an elitist among us!

I guess most of them are made in the same place....

Like I said, it's more about supporting a good company (CRKT does a lot with AKTI, and helped fund the campaign to re-write the switchblade law), than it is about getting a perfect knife. If I wanted a knife that was perfect, I would have spend quite a bit more. I like their products, and I know I'm going to scratch them up as I use them.

Hey there's a thread starter: what's your favorite counterfeit knife? Please include pics...

Point taken.

If I think too much about it (I have), a company that makes a copy knife good enough to fool all but the most knowledgeable people, is kind of defeating themselves, since they need to invest almost as much in tools and equipment as the original manufacturer did.

Maybe I just like my "CRicKeTs" too much...

Yes, but they have to invest much less in marketing, research and development, design, getting big "name" designers on their team, actually using quatlity steel, etc etc etc. Bypassing all that makes making a knockoff profitable.

Take some pictures, send them along with a detailed description of the problems you have to CRKT's warranty/information e-mail address. They'll get you sorted. their CS is absolutely top rate.

I did see counterfeit Razels on a site the other day (one of those Chinese importers). More important that what you bought is where you bought it. If you bought it from a reputable dealer, rest easy. If you bought it off of eBay for a price that seemed too good to be true, or at a gun show or fleamarket...then it's very possible you bought a fake.

Who would bother to make a counterfeit CRKT?? ;)

People will counterfeit dog turds if there's money in them. I've seen counterfeits/knockoffs of very inexpensive knives. Knives that you'd wonder why the hell somebody would bother counterfeiting, that you'd wonder why anybody would buy instead of the actual knife for a pittance more.

If you have doubt email CRKT.

I had a similar concern over a Titanium M16 on a vendor's site, it was a little too cheap. I emailed CRKT's CS and got an answer in a few hours. The vendor was an authorized dealer and it was just a good price.

BTW it's a fantastic knife....

I doubt there are any counterfeit CRKT's, more likely the people that actually make them wanted to sell a few on their own.

(I'm sorry, I just can't help myself sometimes.)

OK, cosmetics don't sound good, but how does it cut? You didn't really buy a $25 knife just to look at, did you?

If it cuts like crap and can't hold an edge, then you have a problem.
