Counterfeit on Ebay How do you tell the difference

I noticed the screws in the scales on some commanders are down the middle of the scales and others are just two on the rear. Is this a different model or a counterfeit? Which is real? Seems like the plain blades are all down the middle. OK, I see just went to the ebay site and they aren't listed as Emerson in the title but if you scroll down a little it does say Emerson in the add.

From AndrewR "I was looking around on ebay and while doing a search for Emerson knives I came across an auction for what is most likely a fake Commander."

Take a look at item #220057120422, Emerson Professional fighting Folding Knife(B) knives.
If you copy and paste the red highlighted area on Ebay it will bring it up

The older Commanders do have screws that run through the middle of the handle (look at the Emerson Knives website for pics). The one thing to remember is that the screws on the real Commanders are crosshead or phillips screws only. On the fake Commanders the screws are torque or hex screws. The knives you found on ebay are fakes, all of them. I can't believe one of these auctions actually has bids. Poor saps.

Yep, it just encourages counterfeiting.

Actually I've bought most of my knives off sellers on ebay. There are many reputable sellers on ebay. Scott Kovach from Autumn's Edge is also an ebay seller. You basically have to learn what to look for. I have made a list of honest sellers.

Hey, I guess they caught up with the ebay seller, all of the Emerson fakes are gone from his listings, there were five yesterday and today, none. Most of them were going for $7.99 or something but I saw one went for $49.01. Yep,:jerkit: poor sap!

i ran into so many fakes on Ebay it became almost impossible to find a decent blade from a decent seller.

I've bought straight from Scott from his website. Anymore ebay is a waste of time for me. YMMV

I've had pretty good luck on ebay. The trick is to know what you're looking for. If you buy a Commander for $7.99, it's probably crap.

Just received a fake Emerson through an eBay auction.
It was supposed to be an Emerson Commander SFS.
Tracked the seller whose been buying cheap replicas on eBay, turning around and selling them as real on eBay.

Torx, wrong; grind, serations, size, weight, thumbscrew, grip, linerlock.
The knife looks good but isn't right.

Beware eBay auctions selling New Emersons without a box..

Too see an example of an honest fake not sold as an Emerson take a look at this current eBay auction...

Funny it looks like an Emerson logo...

And here's one that sold recently to an eBayer...

Could it be I know the buyer??
It's the same guy who sold me a "real" Emerson....
And he still has 2 auctions for Emersons, hmmm.

Here's the fake one I purchased.

Always ask for more and better pictures.

Groos, now that you've found BF, this ought to be the last fake you buy. We look out for each other here. If you (or anyone else) ever has a question about authenticity or any suspicion of fraudulent dealings, post 'em. This strengthens the knife community as a whole. Sorry to hear about your loss.

Yeah, well, my loss, he's sold 5 others and has 2 more up on the block.
You can track these sales easily but you can't warn the other buyers.
He's been at it since before 1 March 2007 why none of the other buyers haven't caught him?
He sold 2 yesterday.

Think maybe eBay is gonna slap him?

Me, I want my money back.

An apology is too much to ask.

Caveat Emptor.

First post didn't go through. Andrew is right. There are good eBay sellers out there, one needs only to know what he is looking for imho. Bought my first 8 from an Ebay seller. Sent it to EKI for "check-up" since I wasn't sure about the liner. Turned out the knife is relatively knew and the liner would wear in time to the point where it is not as difficult right now to disengage. And it was not a fake one.

Still, sorry for your loss. Check with ebay people, maybe they can help you get your money back.
