Few days back I heard Toby Keith on the radio and I havent been able to turn off country radio on my PC ever since...
Being a Finn, we do not listen country/western music, well not anyone that I know of. It this serious, will I get better one day?
I dont have any pains but sometimes I get little sobby when I llisten "Blake Shelton", "Brad Paisley" and "Montgomery Sentry".

Can you recomend me some more artists in this field? :o

Juha

You mean, "Montgomery Gentry". ;) Sorry, but your new disease is incurable. Mine goes into remission sometimes though, when I get sick of hearing the same songs over and over.

Do you like any of the female singers? I like Martina McBride, Reba (mostly her older stuff), Leanne Womack, Sherrie Austin (she still around?), Jo Dee Messina, and a few others. They are good to sing to when I'm alone, lol.

As far as other bands, how about Rascal Flatts, Lonestar, Kenny Chesney and Diamond Rio for a start?

YEE-HAW! ;)

If you want a real kick, go to Sirius Radio's "Outlaw Country". You will hear songs that you never heard before and will never hear again, by artists you never heard of and never will again. There is some unique, original stuff on there.

Oohh I like the ones Ashes mentioned.

Also check out George Strait, and 'Brooks and Dunn', and older stuff like Waylon Jennings, Alan Jackson, Willie Nelson.

Also Kieth Urban has some pretty good songs. And he happens to be a New Zealander by the way!:)

I Like Toby Kieth a lot, it's just that he's been a bit odd lately for some reason. His music is still great though, I just can't get his Honkytonk University album out of my head.
Like the song As Good As I Once Was.

Real nice!

Oh
And check out the one in my signature, "Tequila makes her clothes fall off" by Nickols. Another real nice song.

Just put Achey Breaky Heart on a continuous look for about an hour. You'll be cured.

I like a bit of country from time-to-time. I heard a great country song the other day. The chorus went "I'll give you three good reasons I'm leavin'. Number one is... I've forgotten number two..." Doesn't that just say it all? Country can do that, be simple but profound at the same time.

My favorite is BR5-49. I used to go and see them live when I lived in Nashville.

Thanks all for your tips, I have to get a closer look at them.
Have to say that I have always been sucker for sad sad love songs... :o

Hi Juha, since you are listening on the internet... check out www.khyi.com and click on the "listen now" section. This is a station out of Dallas/Fort Worth Texas area, and they play some great stuff. I always listen to this when I am online.

You poor bastid. Next you'll be abducted by aliens and having carnal fantasies about your sister. Seek help immediately!

LMAO! You forgot Bass Fishin' and NASCAR though... :D

Achy breaky heart makes me want to hurt people and/or myself.

Serious though Juha toss out that "new country" and get to the old !! :D
Merle Haggard , Conway Twitty , Hank Williams Sr. , Johnny Cash , George Jones, Charlie Pride (only Black Country singer to my knowledge) ,
Slim Whitman , Marty Robbins , Loretta Lynn , to name a few.
Old Country has spirit the new stuff just doesnt have....

Johnny Cash doesn't suck. And he could sing without using a terrible / fake / exagerated / wannabe accent that's prevalant in modern Country music.

What happens when you play a country record backwards?

Wait a minute, hurricane season isn't out yet. Somebody is gonna get that trailer.

I've recently started listening to a bit of Country on BBC Radio 2, some good stuff out there, however, I'm a little confused by the use of the term "Americana", does this refer to folk music or country or what  .
Also, can anyone recommend some "entry level" Bluegrass, I like the bits and pieces that I've heard but could do with a spot of help. Cheers. :)

I don't know, that term has been used many different ways. A lot of American folk tunes came straight from Europe with the settlers. But once here, people in various regions of the country developed their own sounds and styles of music, due to blending of ethnic groups, musical heritages, and new instruments. In this context, I guess it would refer to a form of music that has been given it's own twist that's unique to America.

Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, and the Stanley Brothers are classics. Del McCoury is an interesting character who played with all the greats, is still touring today, and has sometimes taken the music in his own direction. Alison Krauss and Ricky Skaggs are more contemporary folks. If you start getting into the older music besides bluegrass, don't miss out on the Carter Family! They are excellent. Them, along with Jimmie Rodgers, were founders of what is called country music today.

No, don't listen to him. Doing so will just make you another suicide statistic... there are better ways of becoming a statistic.

I hate country music with a passion, or at least what the mainstream considers country music (the crap you hear on radio/CMT and all that).

I do, however, LOVE bluegrass. There's not a lot more fun in this world than going to a barn full of dust and hay and maybe even a few horses still, and sitting in on a bluegrass jam drinking beer. You have a lot of fun, hear some great music and some great stories.

I think you could probably put Doc Watson in there too.

Try Acoustic Syndicate for some more modern bluegrass. They're fun. I once saw them at the, now closed, legendary Green Acres and it was one of the best concerts ever... great music, lots of beer and some good sex in a tent later in the night :D.

How about Ray Charles?...He did some excellent "country" music back in the day.

Americana is sort of country-rock.

Nickel Creek is the only "Bluegrass" band I like, although the term in their case is questionable since not all their songs are Bluegrass-ish. They have a good mixture of stuff though, and the fiddle-playing is very good.
