I have been looking for a Sog Field Pup. In my search, I have seen some that were marked Taiwan , Japan, and USA. Are they made in that many countries or are they mis-marked or fake? Any differences in quality between countries? Thanks in advance for any info.

The Field Pup has always been made in Taiwan. I have not seen any fakes of it out in the wild so I would think that there may be some sites out there with incorrect information.

Ok, thanks for the info. The only tang stamp I have seen said Taiwan on it, but I have seen one advertised as being made in Japan. The Sportsmans guide has a page with the Field Pup, Primitive Bowie, and I think one or two more SOG knives and states that they are US made. The only SOG I have right now is a scissor tool, US made, and a multi tool headed my way which is also supposed to be US made. Thanks again for your time, best of days to you.

The Sportsmans guide is a great place and I order a lot of stuff from them but I've found their descriptions on at least 2 SOG knives to be off. They said the Fusion Bowie knife was made in USA, but its made in China. And the Aegis was made in China, but its made in the USA.

For stats, check the SOG site. To find out where they were made, check the sticky above.

I have found some great deals on Sportsmans Guide.

I would say that Chris has this covered :)

The Field Pup is a great little fixed blade and has a nice thickness to boot  I'm not sure of the carry options, but mine has the leather sheath and has withstood the test of time (about 2 or 3 years now ) I only recently sold my personal one for life expenses (bills, school, etc..).

ps. I just noticed that even on my site it says JPN for "japan," but it's supposed to say taiwan :o My items are auto updated so I can't always monitor what is put on there manually myself.

Thanks for the info. I received my SOG multi tool today. It is a S44 and has a leather sheath. Very well made, though a bit smaller than I expected. I carry one of the first model Leatherman Super Tools and the SOG is pretty small compared to it. It doesn't say on the S44 where it was made though. My SOG scissor tool has the USA right on the scissor head. I may get a field pup and try it out. I have been slowly selling off my collection, trying to get down to just a few special ones and the ones that I just naturally grab when needed. Still can't resist getting something new to try though. Guess everyone here knows what I mean too, huh! Thanks again, John
