Nice work guys.....

Its awesome that you all are getting out so much.

Whats that firesteel trick Tony taught ya John?

do you cover the sticks with a ground cloth or just put your bag on it?think my ole body would need some cushion. thanks dennis

Using that swamp bed in the summer time makes me think you'd get eaten alive by mosquitoes. Using it in the winter makes me think you'd get a bit chilly.

But I guess if you have an unexpected stay in the swamp and you have enough cordage on you, that's the way to go.

Buldgron,
the swamp bed has limited applications in my area..we just did it for the heck of it. I've never slept on one..and probably never will unless I get lost in the bayou or something.

That's actually a great shelter down around some areas I've been here in GA; that's one of the reasons I went to hammocks for backpacking...getting off the ground is good protection. I haven't had any issues with snakes, but scorpions (back when I was in TX), and I've seen black widows just walking on the open ground (killed one just ouside my front door last week).

The swamp bed may just be more psychological for comfort, but I've always slept better when elevated.

BTW, that's a great example and project! My son now wants to put one up...another project added to the list:D
