the small hunter is forged from 1095 as well and has african blackwood scaled, fully tapered tang, probably the thinnest ive taken one (.050'') . this one also has some nice copper liners, and stainless steel corby bolts. when heat treating i fully quenched, then after tempering i soft drew the tang and up into the spine, leaving some circular figures in the softer area of the spine.....pretty neat looking i think. the finish isnt a high polish, again begging to be used not just shown off.
the fighter style knife with black micarta is forged from w2, and was clay quenched then bead blasted and given a lengthy etch, to give an absolute non reflective finish, yet allowing you to see the hamon in the back ground. this also has the s.s. corbys and my only thoughts on this in making it were to see it one day over in the sandbox our soldiers have come to know as hell.
the bamboo handeled chopper is also w2, with the hollow ss tube pins. this was just a blade profile i thought looked cool, has no real purpose to the profile of the spine, other than appearance, but the rounded sweet spot that it creates on the cutting edge is more than useful. with the 5/16'' ricasso, tapered tang, and slight distal taper you can get a hell of alot of power on impact of that sweet spot if needed. the handle on this is a bit over sized as far as length, and it allows multiple grips to complete different tasks. you can very easily choke way up on it and sharpen a marshmallow stick for your kid, hold comfortably the standard way and baton up a pile of wood for the nights fire, and hold way back on the rear portion of the handle to chop the hell out of some fresh limbs to build shelter if it were something you needed to do.
hope i havent rambeled to much.
oh yeah, the damascus bowie is just that, it has a few hammer marks as well as a hammered ricasso, which in a using enviroment, wont be the most efficient tool, by all means it was intended to use, but you take hammer finished damascus , and get it all gooped up with blood and guts, it isnt gonna be fun every time you bring it in from the field scrubbing that out of there so it dosent rust or blemish the finish. this knife is also of the same construction as the camp bowie, and has sambar stag, and all damascus fittings.
i will also add on both stag handeled knives, all the pith was removed and the handles poured solid with epoxy to prevent that softer horn material from ever being able to break down and letting the knife start to loosen up . just figured id throw that in as well
ok think that covered it all....lol
