Couple of Knife Kit questions

Hey Dan (or anyone else who cares to chime in) :D

FINALLY may have some time to work on my knife kits this weekend. Got 3 to glue up and sand down; couple of quick questions for you:

Think you said you use 2 ton epoxy. Do you glue up then let set overnight?

Never messed with Corby bolts before. After you screw them together do you use a hacksaw to take off the excess or do you just grind it down? Just to let you know, I just have an el cheapo 1" grinder from harbor freight tools.

How about sandpaper grit? What do you use for roughing out the handles, then finishing them up?

Thanks for the help! If anyone wants to use this thread for detailing their work in progress or finished results, feel free.

Mapper66,checkout the very top sticky. There is a link to a tutorial on how Dan makes knife handles.

Well, damn. Thanks Chickenplucker! Let's see if I can answer my own questions from that tutorial.

Yep, 2-ton with an overnight set.

Looks like Dan just grinds the Corby bolts and pins flush.

Sandpaper grit: 60, 120, 400

You got it. As long as the honey-do list doesn't get in the way. I'm no good with a belt sander, but I'll post 'em up. Wish my brother was here, he's a machinist for NASA and could probably make the entire knife out of cardboard, snot, and elmers wood glue!

I don't know - machining and grinding are two very different things. I can machine fairly well - but I grind better. Machining is about precision - so there is a lot more science. Grinding is about feel - so there is a lot more art.
