Here is a picture of a couple of Bowies that Gary just finished up.One has his first Half penny guard and the other has his first coke bottle handle.Here is what Gary has told me about them.The knives are made with L6 x1/4in the handles are maple.The top knife has been aged.I will let him answer any other questions,As he is not able to post up his pictures yet and I told him I would do it for him.Computer problems:D
I think they both are great looking Knives and I would be proud to own either one myself...Keep up the great work Gary..

Wow, Gary, those are great! I really like the proportions on your blades, all that depth... What did you use on your handles, very pretty. Thanks for sharing, and Bruce thanks for putting them up here.

All these Bowies are very inspirational this morning, look out shop!

Nice job Gary, they both look like knives from yesteryear, a knife that a true mountain man would carry. Keep them cominnnnnn.;)

First Thanks Bruce for posting the photos.
Thanks all for kind words. They still need some
work but not much.
Dave the handle are curly maple. I used Magic
Maple Stain on them.
 
I have no idea Bruce. It`s just a stain that
is made specially for curly maple. All I know
is that it`s toxic & when you are useing it
you know it. I would guess that it has a acid
base. Muzzleloader builders uses it on the gun stock.
I used it when I was building modern rifles with maple stocks
If you would like to try some you get it
(or something similar they are all about the same)
from Log Cabin or Track of the Wolf & Dixie

Excellent bowies!! I love the nice clean flowing lines. The finish on the handles is great, I will have to try to get some of that finish. Glad to see your work up on the forums!

Thanks Craig. The maple stain does a nice job.
I think I`ll refinish the handles there is
a couple of spots I don`t like.:mad:
