Couple of new knives

Hi,

I haven't had a lot of time to acquire some new knives, but after the loss of the Buck 55, I felt a need to drown my sorrows. And what better way than to pick up a new replacement, (or two).:D

I found myself at a Cabela's store and was thinking I really needed a Case Peanut. But my eyes spied this mini Trapper in smooth Chestnut bone and it was love at first sight. This little honey has the walk and talk. And the half stops sealed the deal. If this is the quality Case is hitting regularly now, all I can say is Wow!!

And then a couple of weeks later this little Camillus lockback appeared from nowhere and now resides with me. A perfect replacement for the escape artist Buck. I like the drop point and it's also noticeably lighter than the 55. Apologies to the many Buck fans here, but I think for me, losing the 55 and gaining this Camillus instead is an up-trade for me.

Please excuse the poor phone camera photo, (I'm hoping Santa brings a new camera as the old Kodak died).

Thanks for being here guys!

That's a nice looking Mini Trapper you've got there. I'm quite partial to trappers in general and feel that the slightly more pocket friendly Mini Trappers are an excellent EDC choice. Also the little Cammilus lockback looks great as well (I'm assuming it's an older knife).

Very nice Dale, glad to hear you're pleased with them :)

I use to have the Remington version of that small lock back; it's a cutting little bastid! Both nice knives Dale!

Dale, that is a good compact lockback. Looks very similar to the Schrade OT-3, at 3" closed it's a very tidy carry, useful too.

Hi,

Thanks guys.

Whetrock, I've been told it's often very hard to date Camillus knives. They didn't care much and would often use over-run production in later patterns. But I think this example might be from the late 90's or most likely the early 2000's. So not so old. Maybe someone can give a better time frame?

Peter, I didn't know Remington had a version of this knife. Was it made by Camillus or was it Remington produced? But your right, it's a little slicing monster.

Willgoy, I carried it to work a couple of days and between my belt pouch with phone, flashlight, and multi-tool, the size and weight make it a most agreeable companion. The scales appear to be molded nylon rather than jigged. Which gives them kind of a softer rounded look and feel. Which frankly, makes them a bit cheesy looking to me. But they feel secure and comfortable in use. So I like them.
