I am going to be purchasing my 1st custom knife as I believe I have found a good looking custom that will make for a nice EDC at a very reasonable price.

Basic info.. I am not a heavy user, however have no qualms about using "pretty" knife when I need to. I can go weeks with out cutting a darn thing with it, but still want a serviceable knife that is of a gents varity

1. Blade will be made with "Dama Steel Stainless Damascus".. Tried google, but not much luck with info... Is this respectable stainless and Damascus?

2. I have a choice of G-10 or "Aircraft grade carbon fiber".... I again tried google to find pictures of the Damascus and carbon fiber mix to get a feel for it, but not much luck quickly.. I will look some more.. but would like advice.

You spelled it wrong...

It is Damasteel:

It's good stuff, bottom line, like any other steel, needs a good heat treat to get the most out of it.

Damasteel is a stainless steel made in Sweden. Here's a link to the manufacturer, http://www.damasteel.com/ .

Many well known knife makers use it and it's a good looking serviceable blade steel. I've got a few knives made by Greg Lightfoot and Jens Anso that are Damasteel. You won't be dissapointed in the steel (that's assuming the knife maker is good at what he does).

As far as the G-10 or Carbon Fiber I'll let someone else field that, as I don't have any first hand experience with either.

Looks like STeven beat me to it.

Thanks guys on the Damasteel... I copied and pasted what I was told in an email....

I am finding pictures of Damascus and carbon fiber, but they all have bolsters,, I hate bolsters...

You would be in the vast minority on that one. Bolsters are a sign of extra effort in design, fit and finish.

Here is a pic for you.

Your Google-fu must suck!:D

I generally have very good google-fu, but not with knives or info regarding knives in the last few day.....must re-arrange my hard drives to feng shui standards to aid my google-fu

I understand that about bolsters and I accept my "short bus" status regarding them... I just find them clunky and inelegant looking...

Here's a pic of Aircraft grade Carbon Fiber. The knife was made by Capt. B Koyama and I purchased it from Blade Gallery about a year and a half ago.

This CF has a different weave than parts I have on my motorcycles. It also has a low sheen finish vs the bike and car parts shiney, lacquered look.

And it's the only folder I own that doesn't have bolsters :D

Save me a space on the short bus as well, most bolsters don't float my boat, especially those as long or longer than the other handle material. I understand the extra effort but it is not aesthetically pleasing to me.

Jesper Vox made me a kitchen paring knife done in Damasteel and carbon fiber with red liners. I'm a big fan of CF and damascus (together).
