Couple of Questions

So, I'm a newb to the forums and figured this would be a good start.

I only recently (3-4 months) started hangin' around the forums so I don't know much, just enough to fuel my recent interest in knives.

I have two questions. I received a Kershaw Blackout from my father about a year ago and recently started wondering if there was a way to figure out which blade steel it is made of. From looking around, it seems that it could either be 440A or 13C26 Sandvik....I don't know how old it is. It is in a pretty used condition and is at least 3 to 4 years old. Is there any way to find out?

Second...Has anyone had any experience, in any way, with a Kabar Fixed FIN? I can't find any reviews on them, but they seem like good hard use knives. Does anyone know anything about them, or could point me in the right direction???

Any help would be appreciated...:o

Most likely your Blackout is 440A - they switched to Sandvic just recently this year or so. But you may ask this on Kershaw subforum here directly from TomasW of Tim Galean.

Thanks, Vassili.

Hello tenor, and welcome to the forums!

Check the Born On Date (BOD) etched on the blade. The changeover for your Blackout to 13C26 was July 2007, so if your knife has a BOD of that date or later, its 13C26. If earlier, its 440A.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the responses! I didn't know that they recently switched steels, so mine must be in 440A.
