Couple Of Randall Questions

I am close to placing an order for my first Randall and have a couple of questions I hope you guys can answer for me. If I place my order direct with Randall there is an approximate 5 year wait time. Does this hold true? If you order direct from them is the wait actually that long? I have thought about going through a dealer, does anyone know of a dealer who keeps the price mark-up to a minimum? I have come close to buying from private sellers a couple of times but didn't. I know there is a price increase to offset the wait period and such, that is fine. I am just looking for the best place to buy with the least amount of mark up, without placing a order direct with Randall. Thanks for your time and help.

yes 5 years and some changes actually..

dealers you can try Buck Buchanan, or try becks Cutlery here in NC they usually keep markup about 15 percent and that covers their shipping and insurance..so they don't make a lot of cash off the knife. and their wait is under a year depending on your order

Give Ronnie Beck a call here is his site

I have bought so many knives from these guys well over $10,000 worth in the last 5 years...good honest people.

http://beckscutleryonline.com/ he has some in stock and can get you whatever you want. tell him Josh sent ya.

Gary Clinton is consistently recommended.

I just placed my order and it has a late 2015 shipping date. I was going to order one 3 years ago, but couldn't decide on what model I wanted. I kick myself for not ordering one then, because I would only be a year away now. I have thought about buying from a dealer, but I figured the knife would mean more to me if it was ordered to my specifications and I had to suffer through the waiting period. I ended up ordering a Model #5, 8 inch stainless steel blade, maroon micarta handle, nickel silver single hilt, duralumin crow's beak butt cap, and wrist thong.

kdstrick is right on, as far as ordering from a dealer, Rick is the man. Do not order from a dealer that charges more than catalog price, it is a rip off. Ordering as an individual and waiting forever just doesn't make any sense.
Also, unless you are looking for something unusual you can find whatever you need on Ebay, and get a nice Randall in a week. If you are patient you can find great deals, I have recently purchased several Randall's at slightly above catalog price and even well below. Contact me for examples if you doubt it.
Good Luck I will be happy to help any way I can. If you are wondering why I am offering, it's because I have been ripped off in the past and now I know better.

Hey Guys, just wanted to say thanks for all the info. I am going to go through one of the dealers you all have listed within the next week or two. My only hold up is making that final decision on which model, I have it down to the model 5 and model 1. Thanks Again.

If you like the Model 5, and the size of the model 1, don't forget you can order the Model 14 with a CDT (cut down tang), and get the same handle as the model 1 with a full size blade. I had the Randall catalog in hand, but I must admit I didn't figure out that option until some time after joining blade forums.

Indeed. I've had a 14 on order from the shop for several years now with a BCP grind, FCH, and a crown stag handle. The sky's the limit if you have a little bit of imagination.
