I am seriously looking at buying either a SMF or SnG (haven't decidet which one yet) and have a couple of questions about them.

1: Do the SnGs and SMFs directly from Strider's website come with the heat flamed finish on the titanium handle or is that a special order?

and

2: How does the durability of the CC models compare to the regular handle shapes and are they as equally grippy or do you loose some of that with the CC models?

Thanks in advance... :)

The standard "base model" SnG's and SMF's come with the flame treated Ti slab and varuous colors of G-10. There are many variations of both of these knives and some variations are "exclusive" to certain knife dealers. I would just make sure you see a picture of the actual model you are buying.

As for the CC models, I am not sure that you can get the flamed Ti slab with them. I have only seen ones with a stonewashed Ti Slab. I have not owned a CC Strider so I can't speak to the "grippiness" of the CC models vs. the regular models. I have owned several of the regular models and the G-10 is very grippy, even when wet/bloody. I would not worry about durability problems with any of the Strider knives. They are very stout tools in any configuration and I don't think the small decrease in scale thickness in the CC models is an issue with normal use.

Best of luck with your decision. If possible, I would recommend at least handling the various models before purchasing one. I have found the SnG to be the right one for me. I did not have the option of handling the various knives prior to purchasing them, so I went through several Strider knives and a lot of $$$ before I figured it out.

The CC should carry even better, and the blockiness is reduced so it's smoother to use barehanded. The grip grooves are borderline aggressive without gloves, and work better with them. I've never dropped a SnG, but have a lot of others because of the slicker finishes and lack of retention - grooves, grip shape, G10 linen finish all add up on the SnG.

The stock Ti flaming is very durable, and the CC model just as tough.

I had a SnG regular G10 sold it and bought a SnG GG and it felt too thin but it was grippy, the stop pins stick out wider than the handles after they take the extra off and it was hanging up in my pocket, sold that and bought back the original one, the regular just felt better in my hand. The SmF is a pretty big knife, maybe with the CC it's better in the pocket, it's nice but I prefer the SnG. The striped blade and flamed ti are not extra, like Wade said it just depends on the dealer. Warranty is great.

Thanks for the very helpful replies guys.

I was actually thinking like you, Beile. If I get the SMF it'll be the CC version and the normal one for the SnG.

I do know that the CC version also comes with the flamed Ti on some models. I was also considering the DGG model for the SnG, but I have only seen stonewashed Ti for it.

Thanks again. You guys have cleared it all up for me. :)

I have only bought 2 SNG's. Both were basic black tumbled spearpoint and the TI side was not flamed. One is satin and the other is tumbled. I would have preferred a flamed one but the first was all I could find and the second was too good a deal to pass up.

I havent had the CC model. I will say that anything bigger than the SNG is a bit much for EDC for me and Im good sized ol' boy.

The DGG SnG is my normal daily carry (sometimes a standard SMF Tanto take its place). It is bar none the best handling knife I have ever used. It is comfortable in the hands with or without gloves.
It does have the stone wash type finish on the lock side. The flame job is standard on the standard models.
