Hey guys, sorry for this Noob post but I just have a couple questions since i am limited in my knife making knowledge. I am looking at getting some steel and was thinking that 1084 might be what i am after. I have done heat treating on 1095 but figured since im just getting back into this that 1084 might be easier to work with for now. Does this seem like an ok choice to you guys? Also a question about handle materials, mainly Dymondwood. I was wondering if that can be a generic name or is dymondwood dymondwood regardless of where i order it from? I have been looking for some cheap handle materials from knifemaker.ca and texasknife.com and just wanted to make sure they are both the same product. Also does anyone have any experience with these two companies? Thanks for any help guys and sorry again for the noob questions.

I used many lineal feet of diamondwood, pakawood, stamina wood and others years ago. It certasinly was a very practical material and very reasonable priced too. Frank

My personal experience with Texasknife (as a Canadian) is that almost every time I order at least one thing is on back order (I've waited 6+ months for an item on back order); and every time Canada Post dings you a bit for duties etc (my orders are usually $150+ which might be why, and their weight). That being said, I've given them a lot of money and made a lot of orders there, I'm still happy with their product and with them in general. Rob at Knifemaker.ca has been very helpful as well as providing a great service.

Can't see there'd be much difference in HT regimes between 1095 and 1084 (apart from QC batch issues).
Dymondwood as said is a very practical and stable material, but I can't get over the fact that to me, it always looks like coloured plywood.
