Just a side by side

Now for Questions.

The Large is from C 04, and has very small thumb grooves, the Small is from A 04 and has large thumb grooves. Were they just from different times or are they size specific? Was it a design change and what is on new blades?

Second, the back of blade where it touches the frame lock is different, the large has one large groove cut in it and the small has 2 grooves. What is the purpose of this?

2004 was the year of experimentation with big grooves for the thumb rest.

Opps, edit because you're talking about the blade tang correct? It's just that the small one is dirty, there is not two faces I believe.

There is 2 faces, between the highlights on the small one is the second plateau. The 2nd valley has a 45 degree slant to it.....if you look close, you can see.

maybe the small has the two grooves because of the way the lock engages the blade?

my large classic, purchased in 2003, has two distinct grooves. one round, which rests on the back spacer when opened. and one angled, which engages the lock.

my large reg, april 2005, has two also, but the transition is subtle. at first glance it appeared to only have one, but looking closer it is two one flat for the lock. the second round cut is just cut at more of a continuous longer cut than on the classic. it goes from angled to round, edge to spine.

your large reg looks just like mine. look closer, you will see the angled portion which engages the lock, then a subtle roundish grind toward the spine which engages the back spacer.
