Couple warranty questions

Hey all, just picked up a tanto Zaan and it's awesome! It looks like the handle slabs have been "scotch brited." Does this void the warranty? I noticed that if you send it in for spa service they reblast the handles.

My second question relates to the spa service, anybody know what the turn around time is right now? I called and was told they can't give an estimate. Thanks in advance!

It entirely depends on the scotchbrite finish. If the edges have been rounded and are out of spec, they will not sandblast the handles. And it entirely depends on them. I've had it take more than a month before! But it was well worth the wait :)

If you're going to send the knife in, I'd plan on 6-8 weeks. You may be surprised and get it back sooner tho.

Ah gotcha, I'm debating between sending it in and just sending it back to the seller. Would suck to have the warranty voided. The blade is in excellent shape and opens like butter..

I recently had two large Sebenzas in for standard "spa" service. Time from when I mailed the knifes until when they arrived
back in the mail, was 40 days.

I have one in there right now with a scotchbrite finish(21) that they are going to re-blast for me and was told 4-8 weeks for the return.

The warrany isn't voided. If any edges have been rounded off at all they can't reblast it, but the rest of the knife is still under warranty.
They can probably do that one, and if not you could get someone else to do it.

Not sure what advice I can give you on sending it back to the seller. You may want to ask them if they can give you a week to get it sent to CRK to see. Tell CRK the situation, and they should be able to tell you if they can do it when it gets there. It won't get done any sooner, but maybe they can take a quick look. Good luck making your decision, and hope all works out.

That's the kind of feedback I was hoping for, thanks! I saw the website had a range, but wasn't sure how accurate that was.

Good deal! Did yours look similar to mine?

The edges don't look rounded, but all I have to compare it to is my startac haha. The blade is in excellent condition and opens great so I'd like to keep it. Was described as "like new" boy was I surprised haha

Here ?(edit- nevermind that. Found the WTB add)

They should tell if one has had this treatment.
If they didn't I wouldn't be to happy about that, and I hate to hear you didn't get the knife you thought you would.
If you're not happy with it you may want to think about sending it back and wait for another to come up.
Then again, you do like it, and CRK may have it looking as new.
Boy, I'm a big help aren't I :rolleyes::p

If you plan to have it as a user, and the price was reasonable, I'd just use it for a few years, then send it to the spa.

scsu74-Mine was a 21, but the finish did look similar to yours. I don't know if no rounded edges is a new rule- They did a classic with melt(rounded edges) for me awhile back. It did need to have the lock heat treated, so they had to re-blast it. Which may or may not have something to do with them doing it( sorry if I am adding to the confusion).
