Courteous image sizes?

I'm a newbie. I've been wading my way through rules and FAQs. The section about "Image Rules" at the link below says we are to be courteous with image sizes:

What are courteous image sizes? File size and/or screen real estate?

I can't find a good rule of thumb on what constitutes ultra high resolution. Maybe I missed it. I don't want to break the rules.

Can y'all suggest some general guidelines on what I should be aiming for?

Here is a thread in which I inserted an image:

https://www.bladeforums.com/threads...nt-sheffield-stainless-england-laser.1976422/

My picture is the one with a well-loved (and used) knife/measuring tape on a well-loved (and worn) background.

Also, are there additional recommendations on maximum screen sizes we should resize our images to fit within? When I posted the image, I chose the "auto" width and height options. Acceptable?

The actual image is 2048x1536 hosted at Imgur. Space on disk seems to be 685KB; resolution 120 DPI.

Reasonable?

You can bump it down to 72 resolution and it won't hurt the quality for viewing online, and the file size should drop down to under 500kb. Every little bit helps.
