Hey guys. My cousin is asking for a cold steel , 49ks steel tiger. I don't own any cold steel knives, so I want your honest opinion, is it worth the $$130+ shipping. My cousin said she knows the price tag is big so I can hunt around for a cheaper one but I bet she is really, really hoping to get it, so I'm willing if it isn't over priced. Also, what are some cheaper better alternative knives. Thanks.

As laways I can only offer my personal opinion...
The Steel Tiger is a very interesting knife. I often use it as an example when people ask about idea submissions to Lynn and his team.
The Steel Tiger was made as a result of fan requests for a Karambit. They asked, and Lynn and the R&D team listened. Therefore we set out to make the best Karambit in the world.
That was their mission :)

Our team worked alongside custom knife maker Steven Likarich and extensively tested a variety of broad curved hooking blades to find the best possible claw for our tiger.
It had to not only stab well, but it had to cut well, and for many karambits this is more of a challenge than many people realize!

There are lots of Karambits on the market today, but in my opinion the Steel Tiger remains one of the best there is.
I'm sure I sound biased :D but many of our employees here at Cold Steel (myself included) practice Filipino and Indonesian Martial Arts and have done their fair share of cutting with Karambits. I personally haven't handled one that matches the Steel Tiger for performance.
It's not a cheap knife for sure, but for the amount of performance packed into that knife, I think it's worth every cent - and if you can find it cheaper online, even better :)

Thanks. I found one on a different website like eBay, same price, perfect. Thanks so much for the information. (The one I ordered from claims to have no used items).

It's a thing of beauty. Fit and finish is top notch and it feels very solid.

I suggest getting one of the FGX Karambits from CS to go with it (can be found for <$15). The FGX is the same handle and basic shape, but the plastic blade isn't anywhere near as sharp as the Tiger. It's safer to practice with.

I would still recommend taking a file to the FGX version and taping the edge and tip.
I've seen more than a few Karambit twirling accidents over the years at shows and events ;)

Good advice. The first FGX I got was the Tai Pan model. I pulled it out of the package, ran my finger along the edge, and sliced it open.:o:D The cutting was done by a few little bits of flashing along the edge, but it cut me all the same. The points on these FGX blades are no joke either. Blunting the tip and edge is a must for training purposes.

Yeah, the LAST thing you want is an accident while training w/ ANY "live" recurved CS blade, Gurka Kukuri, Steel Tiger...I don't give a damn which CS recurve you pick, somebodys gonna BLEED....alot....for no good reason.

These gentlemen are SPOT on, give sister an FGX version or two for training, and a Steel Tiger or two for salivating over.
