Cover adhesive?

I see a lot of Buck knives that have covers that are pin-less. I have never heard of covers coming loose, and I am just wondering what type of adhesive they use. If anyone knows anything, please share!

Howdy Ernie, I'm an amature but I'll chime in anyway. I use clear JB weld and most of the reason for that is availability. I think most any quality epoxy would work. I also prefer to buy the smallest size to keep it fresh. Pete

I am a fledgling knife “tinkerer”, that is why I am wondering. I use regular 2 part epoxy for attaching covers, but also use pins. The epoxy on some of my first knives, that I didn’t pin correctly, has come apart and made for loose covers that I had to go back and re-pin. Buck seems to use something that is very reliable:)

I use a lot of AcraGlas and West Systems. Ocassionally Gorilla Glue 2 part epoxy.

Make sure you rough up both surfaces being glued and clean well with epoxy primer or acetone.

Don’t go cheap on these adhesives. Some of the hardware store adhesives aren’t UV or temperature tolerant.

3M 5200?
That :poop: Never lets go after it's cured.
(and takes 2.5 months to get offa yer hands and/or fingers ... using a belt sander ... daily ...)

My current stuff is standard hardware epoxy, but as you mentioned it is not tolerant of temperature change and UV light! I will look up your suggestions, thanks:thumbsup:

I use decent good epoxy. Name brand, 3M and some others.
And I also use blind cutlery screws. Rough it up, and apply a good epoxy.
Then don't tighten it up in a vise. Use rubber bands or a clip, just something tight
enough to hold it for over night curing. DM
