Do you think convexing a hollow-grinded knife defeats the purpose of the grind or not? I am just curious on what other may think? I am thinking about doing it but I just want some honest opinions and any info or input would be appreciated. Thx

Just convexing the edge? Go for it:thumbup: If you mean regrinding it, that's a whole different story:p

I convexed the heck out of my OD-1 (hollow ground) and it's the second best slicer I carry. It makes the edge thinner and this translates to better slicing.

To do this, I first taped the spine and laid the blade flat on the DMTXXC stone. This thins the bevel to almost a zero edge. Then I gradually rotated the blade to about 10-degrees per side. Then it's all about polishing it up through the grits. This gives a 20-degree edge bevel with no shoulders; and an attractive transition from the mirror-polished bevel to the stone washed hollow.

You can convex the edge, not the main grind. A hollow grind (concave) is the exact opposite and a convex grind.
