A few years back Northwoods made a limited number of a knife that was a replica in the cowboy bowie style. Had a blade of 1095 steel, sambar stag handles, and a horsehide custom sheath made by Jack Mosher was an available option.
I always wanted to pull the trigger on one but never did, until now. It will be another week before it arrives though. It does come with the custom horsehide sheath and the sheath looks really nice. The knife itself is 9 3/4" in length with 5 3/4" being blade. I think the thickness is 3/16".
This knife is the bowie I remember growing up with. It was the style used to make toy's, when it was alright to make toy knives, and the style I remember getting when it was a real knife. This would be back in the mid 60's, into the 70's (for the real one), and plastic stag was used on the toy version, and real stag on the real one, though it was European Stag as that knife was made in Germany.
I think this style of bowie knife is one of the classic's when it comes to bowie knives. Just a simple full tang knife with small guard and a shorter clip point blade, short so that it could be comfortably carried while riding your horse and also being used as your all purpose knife/camp knife.
I can remember those Roy Rogers six-guns, holster's, and cowboy bowie strapped on the same belt. When I wore those, the people stood at attention and listened to me!!:thumbup:
Does anyone have any cowboy bowie style knives they would post some pics of?
Can't believe I didn't add the pics from the website I purchased it from, but here they are;
